Default The Ten Worst Towns To Live In Oklahoma

No surprise. I've been to most of Top Ten and wouldn't want to go back to most any, other than Poteau to see the country's highest hill again for the fall. Going with the opposite side, most of their Top Ten towns are in metro areas, but doesn't include Norman. But Norman fans can be glad that Stillwater wasn't rated better.

I won't say their data is inaccurate but the decisions are heavily skewed towards crime statistics.

I had to chuckle on Poteau being too far from any city. The Fort on the AR line is a 25-30 minute drive, less if it ain't hay haulin' time.
When I lived there, Tulsa was about 2 hours out, though I imagine that's been trimmed down a fair bit. There's a lot of 4 lane between my home town and I-40 that didn't use to exist. Best as I recall, Dallas was about the same drive time as coming to OKC, and a much prettier drive to boot. Common non statistic attitude though was we can get other places anytime we want to, if we should want to. Growing up there, you rode bikes until someone was driving age, then you explored to do the things what weren't done in your own back yard.
We didn't have many of the things you have in the city, that's for certain. But we had Miss Amy, we had Brazil Creek, we had Freddie's, and a passle of garage band folk. We managed just fine hanging in the country, and sometimes in town.

I miss Poteau at times, and I should go back more than I do. My lovely gets back more than I do. Sometimes, even a grown lass needs her and daddy time and to hug a cuzzin or two.

Their description of Ardmore doesn't really match up with my experience. The statistics may make it the most dangerous place, but I lived there for years and multiple members of my family still do along with many friends and acquaintances though my home church, and what they're describing feels...off. Might be a question of the side of the tracks you live in, so to speak. I dunno.

Bizarre. No towns east of I35. I cannot believe Lawton didn't make the list.

It's listed, but at 29. Managed to avoid the top 25 worst.

Did you mean west of I-35?

I'm surprised El Reno and Luther aren't on the list.

On the positive side, I was surprised that such a little town as Kingfisher got on the Top Ten best places or in other words least worse places. I wouldn't want to live in a town that small. At least it's big enough to have a Wal-Mart. But their criteria such as low crime happened to land on Kingfisher.

As the list would suggest, if you want to do Oklahoma well, a number of the suburbs of Tulsa and Oklahoma City are the best places to live.

Agreed.... We own land down there and I spend most of my weekends and a lot of holidays down there... Yes, there are some rough parts of town but for the most part Ardmore is a vibrant community with a lot of arts and entertainment.

The downtown has gone through an amazing renaissance in the last 10 years.... About the only disappointment I've felt about downtown is that recently the former malt shop, that was then turned into an excellent sushi restaurant (Yes... I said excellent sushi in Ardmore.), was turned into one of those payday loan places after Edamame relocated down the street.

I have always been impressed with Ardmore, but I know multiple people who live (or lived) there and nearly all said the city has a serious crime issue.

The city has a ridiculous gang problem and is a major drug trafficking center. I actually met some old college friends on a trip to the Bahamas recently and they had recently relocated from Ardmore to Broken Arrow; they decided it was time to leave after their neighbors were nearly killed in a violent home invasion by some Hoover gang members.

Yes, unfortunately being midway between Dallas and OKC the city does have some gang issues and has recently had a series of drive by shootings..... It does appear to be contained to a certain part of town. I've only ever noticed tagging in a small area on the SE side of town.

There is also a lot of meth related issues in the area as well..... Even with all that. I can't say that in the 12 years I've been a part time resident of the area that I have ever felt unsafe or threatened in any way.
