Thread: Demographics research tools

    Default Demographics research tools

I would like to do some demographic research (and get some pointers in how to do it) to see if starting a weekly event in Oklahoma City would be a worthwhile endeavor or if we don't quite have the diversity that would be necessary for the project.

The event would be a weekly language exchange where people can come and meet other people and practice speaking in other languages that they're learning. We have a couple language exchanges in OKC primarily through Meetup.com, but I would like to get something going using a particular format that is absolutely brilliant that I experienced overseas.

Basically I see 2 basic elements for this to function:

    1. Consistency in crowd-size (Can't be 3 people one week and 35 the next then 10 > 4 > 28) with a reliable base number of attendees that can keep the conversations interesting.

    2. More than just 2 languages, preferably 4 languages that have a high attendance rate. In this case, English and Spanish would certainly be #1 and #2, so I imagine French and something else would need to pull up the rear.

The latter is where the research comes in. I need to know what sort of user-base we actually have in this city to find out if the numbers could potentially support the event, particularly outside of English and Spanish.

Sounds like a cool event! German please! I've been teaching myself on and off for a few years, but the inability to practice or use it has kept me from being more dedicated.
