I'm just amazed that people still use their internet provider's email server. I left mine at the suggestion of my internet provider when I was losing emails just after I lost my wife, a very important time as I'm sure you can imagine. They couldn't figure out what the problem was and suggested Yahoo, Google, Hotmail, and another one or two. I chose Google and have never had a problem since January, 2006, almost ten years. I do understand that you probably don't want to go through the hassle to change and notify all your friends, but for me, switching to a problem free system has worked great and well worth the trouble.

It's just another aspect of the wonderful Cox Matrix that allows me to pay over $200 a month for what noobs can buy into for less than half that amount. (The noobs probably get their emails before they are even sent.)

Heartily recommend getting away from ISP emails, and Cox is no exception. I buy Cox for their Internet pipe, and that's all. I couldn't even tell you the last time I bothered checking any of my Cox email addresses or used their epically horrific web interface to try. I realize Google is scanning and marketing the you-know-what out of my email, but dang it, it just works, and I can access it anywhere.

At some point, a smart marketing guy at Cox is going to offer pipe-only pricing. No email, no cloud crap, no anti-virus, no "helpful" support - just give me a data pipe and let *me* worry about the rest.

    SoonerDave,
Is it realistic to believe that the other email servers, ISP provided, or any of the others (Yahoo, Hotmail et al) don't "scan and market" our email? I honestly don't know, because we always hear what the big dog is doing. How else could they provide "free" email? By the way, I can access my ISP email from anywhere.

They *all* do it to a varying extent, which is precisely why I don't get too excited when I hear people get itchy about "marketing the user" for Google. They are all, inevitably, doing something similar.
