Thread: Greek Restaurant

    Western Ave. Greek Restaurant

Plans are underway to bring an authentic Greek restaurant to the old French Cowgirl space at 4512 N. Western.

    [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
Preliminary plans call for the space to be remodeled to include a small bar inside and another on a new pergola-covered back patio, as well as a casual fine dining setting with Greek design influences.

There will also be a directly adjacent parking area.

The menu is being developed in conjunction with a chef in Greece and will feature lamb, skewers, authentic gyros and other traditional Greek offerings cooked over a charcoal flame.

The name, branding and final design should soon be completed.

The restaurant and bar would join several other dining options in thriving Western Avenue corridor, such as Sushi Neko, The Barrel, the Drum Room. VZD's hopes to reopen in late June or early July.

The entire area is getting an extensive renovation through street, sidewalk, and landscaping improvements. The changes will allow for plenty of outdoor seating for the new restaurant along Western, which may be added later.

The proprietors hope to start construction once the proper rezoning is obtained, with a targeted opening of late 2015.

Like I said in the other thread, I cannot wait for this. Will be nice to have an authentic Greek restaurant in OKC that serves the correct meat (lamb). Hopefully this becomes a big hit.

This will be the real deal, and there isn't any authentic Greek food in OKC.

The proprietors are also planning to invest heavily in the remodel.

Will make a big difference on this stretch of Western, which will soon be completely transformed.

Does OKC even have a legitimate Greek restaurant?

Even Zorba's calls itself Mediterranean, which is not the same thing.

I was told this restaurant's gyro meet will be supplied by on outfit out of New York, not local suppliers.

I really think this place will be legit and something really needed in the local dining scene.

Plus, that location is fantastic. I smell a home run.

If you go into a Greek restaurant, order a gyro, and they ask you "chicken or beef?", its not authentic. I am not aware of any authentic Greek restaurants in OKC.

There is Dimitri's Peacock downtown, but although they offer gyros, not sure if any are lamb and more than half their menu is non-Greek.

yeah... after eating there once, i wouldn't consider dimitri's to be authentic. the gyro that i had there was pretty disappointing. -M

When I've eaten at Dimitri's, something is off about the gyro meat. It doesn't taste quite right to me and there's a film it leaves. I can't think of any truly authentic Greek restaurant in OKC.

Since they will be using charcoal, it will likely look more like this:

oh... i can live with that. in fact, that'd be better than what i pictured. can't think of anything in town that doesn't use the pre-formed gyro meat cylinders. -M

On May, just south of 30th or 36th? In the same strip as Jersey Mike's. Great food, btw!

I wonder if this restaurant is still in the works. Maybe it was delayed by the construction on Western Ave?

Istanbul is decent, but isn't quite what I am looking for in a Greek restaurant.

I can't ever remember to go to instanbul. What a bizarre location. I checked it out just as they were wrapping up construction in 2014. Looks nice. Looking forward to the Greek, and really hoping for more than feta sprinkled on everything, kabobs, and gyros.

Sweis's Brothers has wonderful Greek food. It's at about the 2100 block of N. May.

Yes this restaurant is still a GO. There were some zoning issues and a lot of remodel to do on the structure. It might still be a while but last I heard all is good to go.

Plans continue to move forward. I've seen the preliminary design and it's very impressive. The outside will look completely different and they are planning to make a pretty big investment in both the interior and back patio.

Also, I've seen the menu and it's authentic and very interesting. I'm really looking forward to this because the operators know what they're doing and this will be completely unique in OKC.
