Thread: Garage Burgers

Just going to point out that Tucker's has never made me sick and I prefer it to the Garage (which is also good). Just couldn't let this forum devolve into anti-Tucker's rhetoric for much longer...

    Agreed.

I think both burgers are good, but both places are very different. The Garage is a great spot to go and watch the game and grab a beer and burger with a ton of toppings/specialty burgers while Tucker's is a (very good) straight forward onion burger restaurant.

I very well could be the only one here who doesn't care for The Garage. Been there 3 times and just have been disappointed in the burger every single time. Now if a group of friends/family want to go, then I'll go. It's decent enough to eat. But I could think of 10 other burger places I'd rather go.

I still like the food at Tucker's better, but the two are quite different places.

The Garage has a ton more choices and a broader menu, a full bar, etc. The one in Midtown is great just as a hang-out spot.

I've yet to try S&B but it's closer to the Garage model (bar, etc.) than Tucker's.

The whole ordering set up at Garage is a big turn off. While I sit at the bars frequently at restaurants, and you can get full service at the garage in doing that, its when Im with a bigger group and need a table that I dont like the order at the other end of the restaurant set up. It appears they have a decent amount of wait staff, so I dont know why they cant take orders at the table. Its especially annoying when you want to order another beer.

And judging from my friends comments to me in the past, grilled onion burgers being hard on the stomach isnt an uncommon phenomena. Or is it phenomenon? Eh, who cares.

Now did you eat the Mother-Trucker, big fries and a shake when you got these spasms? Just need to clarify the situation!

I ate a double the first time and thought I over ate. Just a single the last 2 and split the fries. Unfortunately It just didn't agree with my system.

Yeah, I would love to hear these 10 places. For me, Nic's and S&B for sure. And maybe Tucker's and Patty Wagon; if not better, around the same level.

Yeah I guess I wasn't thinking about some of these other bars/restaurants. Was thinking of burger only joints. But yeah, Republic does a pretty mean burger.

I stumbled across a little diner in the Stockyards not named Cattlemen's a few weeks ago that is making an awesome burger...... I mean a burger that jumped to the top of my burger list kind of burger.

Perfectly seared with a crispy crust on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside.

    Urban Johnnies for burgers.

Ok, of the ones I've been to, I'll give you Flatire and Cow Calf-hay, I forget about those places. My one time at Rons was ehhh. And Irma's patties seem like the frozen kind to me. Don't think Johnnies is on Garages level either. Haven't been to the others.

If you had the regular burger at Irma's, you should have gotten the No-Name beef, waaaaaaaay better.

Someone commented earlier they thought no-name was just okay. The best thing at Irmas is the chicken sandwich with avocado added. I have their regular burger and it's just okay too.

Ok maybe I missed it on the menu, but what's the difference between their no-name burger and regular burger?

WHAT!!!! Pete are you serious - if you haven't had S&B, you MUST TRY IT before you leave OKC. The 59th & May location is the best overall, but the 9th St is winning us over, especially with their full size veggie burgers, which are just amazing. They actually make theirs in-house. Can't find anything like it anywhere else in OKC.

    No Name Ranch

Short version - it's all-natural beef raised on a ranch here in OK instead of some generic stuff frozen 4 states over and shipped here.

I was in Midtown trying to find a place to eat before the Dodgers game on Friday and was skeptical when some friends said they wanted to try The Garage. I had heard mixed reviews from people about their other locations, but the Yelp reviews on this location were excellent so I decided to give it a try.

Let me start out by saying when I enter a burger joint and there are literally 20 different burger options on the menu, I get a little skeptical. Too many choices is usually a recipe for disaster. This is why Tuckers is my favorite burger joint in OKC. There are 4 burgers options. Keep it simple, make a great burger every time, and I will throw money at you. Anywho...

It took me a little longer than my friends to order a burger because there were just so many options and all of them, to my surprise, looked pretty tasty. I ended up ordering the Grilled Jalapeno Bacon Cheeseburger with a side of sweet potato fries. We wandered out to the patio to wait for our food.

When our food came out, we all took our first bite and there was silence. Everything was so damn good we couldn't even speak except to make a "MMMMMMMMHHHHH" sound. The jalapenos on my burger still had seeds and membrane but they were cooked down so much that they weren't all that spicy. They were perfect. And if it did get a little spicy, the garlic aioli spread helped to cool things down. The meat was juicy and was crispy on the outside.

The sweet potato fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly.

I would give this place a 5/5. Hands down one of the top 3 burgers I have ever had. WILL DEF BE BACK!
