I know it's been said many times before, but I'm going to say it again; don't click on this thread. If it bothers you that much, just ignore it. Act like it doesn't exist. Perhaps you would be happier having discussions in other threads. But to come on here and tell people who are interested in it to stop talking about it is stupid. There's a lot of threads on the forum that I care nothing about. You know how I solve that? I scroll right past and don't click on them. I don't click and then post about how stupid everyone who is posting in the thread is.

That's all well and good as long as all of your comments don't agitate. And that seems to be mostly the case. It's quite common and acceptable here to give negative comments about most things but those who only give negative comments are not that well received.

There is some truth to dcsooner's statement above! I am a native OKC born, raised, went to school and college in Oklahoma. I still ties with family and old friends so I am not an outsider. Moved to Florida for 5 years and then moved to Dallas (Plano) almost 12 years. I have been away from OKC for a while I do want OKC to grow, prosper and become a much more dynamic city and live up to it's true potential. However, Dallas will "never" be jealous of OKC. Dallas is many light years ahead of OKC. That is the plain simple truth.

Once again, I think "jealous" was the wrong word for Steve to use for whatever this project is/was. "Impressed by" would have probably been better. While I agree Dallas will NEVER be jealous of OKC, there is no saying there couldn't be a development here that would be impressive to a Dallasite.

I think that's why there's so much speculation on here abou it. I think many of us don't believe that there's any development that could make these two metros jealous. I think bchris is correct, "impressed by" might've been a better choice of words. But Steve is a professional writer and he chose the wording he chose. It's not like it was some athlete speaking without thinking or someone who isn't good at writing. Steve's job is working with words so that's why so many of us are confounded by the words he chose.

Even though whatever the jealous topic might be hasn't been revealed, that new white water rapids course is plenty for Dallas or KC to be jealous of. Not by everyone from those metros but by quite a few I would imagine. You will find a lot of folks making day trips from Big D just to play in the water.

I don't think people are going to be leaving with the envy of not having a white water rapids course, but that's just me. It's something that's a cool asset for the city to have, but not something they would be jealous of.

I think people are going to be totally surprised how big of a regional draw these rapids will be. We should know within a year or two.

I agree it will be a large draw and have a huge impact. Just don't think it's something that they will be jealous of. Of course, everyone is different.

For me, I'm jealous of the malls, highways, roads, landscaping, and shopping options that are available in Dallas.

true everyone is different.. I can't imagine leaving a city and saying I am jelous of the Malls, Highways or roads they have.

It's goes way beyond that. I can't image coming into a city that looks as bad as OKC does coming from a city like Dallas and being jealous of a White Water center.

I'll list everything I am envious of Dallas.

I don't know if you know people that are into this type of sport but people will come from all over for this and the active community in Dallas will most definitely be jealous of this.

    Dallas:

    *Seafood
    *Upscale Shopping
*Large swaths of middle class to upscale housing with no poor areas breaking it apart
    *highways, roads, and beautification
    *skyline
    *urban districts
    *parks and multi-use trails
    *rail lines
    *Galleria
    *Dallas Opera
    *Six Flags over Texas
    *Medieval Times
    *Ripley's Palace of Wax
    *Reunion Tower
    *towering office parks throughout suburbia
    *Northpark Mall
    *Stonebriar
*grocery(Krogers, Trader Joes, Tom Thumb, Central Market, etc...)
*driving style(people in that city can actually go faster than f%cking 55MPH)
    *Cowboys Stadium
    *Uptown
    *Highlands park

As I specifically said, I agree that this will be a big deal.

I would like to see solid numbers on how many people actually use these courses and then compare that to the 320 million people in the US and if you want, 7 million in the DFW metro. I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas announces a White Water course soon. I know it was talked about not long ago.

That list is beyond absurd. It's all your opinion. I like lots of those things as well but its nothing to be jealous at a city over. This isnt a OKC vs Dallas thread because Dallas is the larger and arguably the better city but OKC is coming on fast. Dallas is a great city and OKC is a great city. They each have their unique qualities.

What got me started on this was many years ago, while kayaking at Beavers Bend, over half the people we met were from the DFW area. For the up and coming kayaker, it'll be gangbusters. I floated the Pudre' up by Estes Park Colorado a couple of years ago, and it's very popular but boy is the water cold, even in August.

And Plupan my friend, I've got 5 or 6 million reasons to stay away from Dallas.....

I don't this that it is just the white water facility but what we will see develop around it. When Charlotte put theirs in they did not realize what a center for activity it would eventually become. This is the starting point for us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orfvuLZWODE

OKC and Dallas have separate, distinct personalties and are very different from each other. From my experience, people who "click" with one will feel out of place in the other. Some people prefer busy, cosmopolitan, transient culture of Dallas others prefer the slower-paced and close knit culture of OKC. Different strokes for different folks.

OKC should strive to be the best metro of 1.3 million it can be and shouldn't try to compete with or outdo Dallas because it never will be able to do it just like Phoenix will never be able to outdo L.A.

    lol

At the end of the day, Dallas is not going to be jealous of some artificial white water course in the middle of OKC. If they want real white water, they're going to go to the Big Bend, Rio Grande, or to Colorado. I'll let you in a on a little secret, Dallas has more class than to go on a white water excursion to some city like OKC for a fake experience.

It's laughable that people on here are saying Dallas is going to be jealous of that. Dallas is hardly jealous of our zoo. But go on, anything to say something Dallas lacks or the typical endless sprawl mess blah blah blah. Dallas is 20x the city OKC is and will ever be and a white water course isn't changing that.

I don't think this thread ever implied that any one development would make Oklahoma City a better city than Dallas. What does "better" mean anyway? There are so many ways to interpret that that every single person posting is going to have a different idea of what makes one city "better" than another. Is there any one thing that is going to be built here that another city like KC or Dallas wishes they had? That's all this thread title means. I'm sure Steve is beyond sorry he ever mentioned this,

Tokyo makes Chicago look a one street inbred town. What's your point? Doesn't change what I said. You're just mad apparently because you can't refute what I said. By all means, let the Dallas bashing continue. As I said, Dallas is 20x the city OKC is and can ever hope to become.

Yeah, this is Chicago compared to Tokyo.
