Thread: H&M

It appears that there is a large stretch of space that is being cleared out on both the 1st and 2nd levels overlooking the foodcourt. My guess is that this is where H&M will go.

    H&M isn't upscale.

My daughter loves the place but I personally can't stand going into H&M. It's in no way "upscale", it's basically a discount store for trendy-ish euro styled clothing for skinny young people. Think IKEA for clothes.

H&M is just the latest spot to buy cheap clothing. In my opinion, it is very similar to The Gap of 30 years ago, and Old Navy of 20 years ago. It's only special to OKC because it is new to the market. Once it's open, the glow will diminish considerably.

The quality of their clothes seems to be a hit and miss. I will definetly not be shopping there.

When I first experienced H&M in NYC, I was very shocked at how trendy and cheap the clothes were. When Dallas got them a few years back, every Dallas trip included a stop to H&M. However, the fad wore off on me and I barely go in there anymore, the long term quality of the clothes is just not very good, but you can't expect much from a $5 t-shirt or a $12 button down shirt. Also, like others have said, H&M is far from upscale, but they are typically in upscale malls like North Park in Dallas or Fashion Valley in San Diego.

Dallas has them in a lot of malls.

So are Walgreens, 7-11 and CVS stores.

I stopped the one in Mall of America last week. Nothing in there that I would buy. Not my taste in fashion. I am glad at least it will fill a hole in Quail Springs. Just wish they would bring in the likes of LL Bean. (main reason for going to MOA) They said their next store is opening in Denver. Great quality and classic style clothing.

That's sort of the beauty of H&M...it's trendy and cheap. You don't buy something from there expecting it to last for years...you expect it to last a season or two...then you replace it with something in style the next season. I actually do quite a bit of shopping there. It's an easy and cheap way to refresh your wardrobe with the latest styles. We've got several of them in Denver. Some are the larger two story types (like the one we have downtown) and others are smaller.

If you walk the streets in NYC, particularly 5th Ave., you would know what I am talking about. And there are no Walgreens, 7-11s or CVS stores on 5th Ave in NYC anyway. So, I'm not sure what you are trying to say.

H&M is a trendy store and a Euro store. Younger fashion forward on a budget persons like it alot. Those who think LL Bean is advanced fashion will not like or shop at H&M...and H&M doesn't care...isn't their market.

As an imported concept, H&M went to proven big markets first and then move out to what they think are next best opportunities. Coming here only says they think OKC is the current best opportunity and is forward thinking enough to support it.

Let's not overthink this opening. It isn't like we are opening a Tiffany's or Ritz Carlton here with this. Just means we are on the radar of contemporary retailers who don't like to fail.

That's a good point. I never thought of it like that.

Construction company with the project lists the size as 22,075 square feet. Their construction period is from June 1 to August 11.

Will be going between Buckle and American Eagle on the 2nd floor (~6,500 square feet) and Hot Topic Zumiez on the 3rd (~15,500 square feet). As mention old Disney store, Journey's, Image, and Bookstore area. Will have it's own escalator and elevator. Men's on 2nd floor with women's and youth on 3rd.

3 Floors? Is there unused space behind the restaurants on the food court level? Two month construction that involves building an elevator and escalator seems super fast. Unless that's August of next year?

There are two building permits; that one is probably just to get the space to shell condition.

Then, there is a second more elaborate BP for the tenant finish out that will start right afterwards.

I'm sure they'll want to be open in early fall at the latest.

The store will just be on 2 floors. Robert_M called them the 2nd and 3rd floors, as he's counting the food court level of the mall as the first floor.

Oh ok, I didn't catch that.

SoonerFP is correct just two floors. I guess I should have said Upper and Lower Level to be more accurate to match the mall designation.

The dates are listed as "Construction Dates: 6/1-8/11" with the note " The schedule is very aggressive " so yes it will be within the two months. I would imagine based on what Pete said the space will be gutted to the studs by the June 1st date and they would just have to come in and run MEP, build walls, and do the finish work. They will probably be doing at least 6 days a week with 10+ hours a day.

I was just there last night and noticed that the areas on both levels don't exactly line up. There's an overlap though, where the right part of the lower level is under the left part of the upper level. I'm assuming that's where the escalator and elevator will be. Forgot to snap a pic while I was there. Sorry y'all!
