I tip with every ride if I have cash on me - which is 80% of the time. I've never had a driver even hesitate to take it. In fact, they seem very appreciative.
UberBlack isn't available in Oklahoma, so the preset tip in your rider profile doesn't mean anything to driver's here.
Questions Sid: In your area, do you notice that the ETA is always WAY OFF? Every single time I've requested an Uber the actual arrival time is at least double what the app predicted.
This morning when I called for a call it said the driver was 9 minutes away. I looked at the map and it was blatantly obvious he was further than that. Took him 26 minutes to get to me.
I just wonder if this happens in other markets as well? Happens too often for me not to believe its not a marketing ploy (or really bad programming).
At the same time Uber cut their rates, they also engineered ghost cars into the rider app. Prior to the rate change it would literally show you where each driver is at. From what I've seen and has been reported, now when you open the driver app it might show a handful of cars in your vicinity, when in actuality there are 0. The goal there is to have you disregard arrival times. Also I believe the initial estimates will show the distance in "as the crow flies". I've accepted ride requests before and the transit time is 20% to 30% greater than what was initially shown.
There was surge pricing all last night. I paid 3x surge pricing, 2.8x and 2x at various times before and after the game. I've never seen that before during the regular season, especially weekdays. Fortunately I don't have far to go.![]()
Thanks for clearing up the Tip option on Uber. was afraid mine was broken. I have always thought they need to have it like Lyft does. I really like the idea of giving you the option when you rate your driver 4 or 5. I never have cash on me so tipping other than electronic really isn't an option.
I've had two Uber drivers decline cash tips. I was not the one offering as I knew it was built into the price, but others in the group still think it is necessary for cash tips. Other times, we either do not tip - or someone in the group offers cash and the driver accepts.
Tipping cash to the driver is a safety issue, Uber needs to make it clear if they want to encourage that or have it built into the price (which it should be).
Not to be conspiracy theorist here, but I feel like "surge pricing" is becoming a very common occurrence (at least in OKC). However, I see 'online & available' drivers everywhere during it.
I don't think so, but don't necessarily think it was artificial, either. Discussing it with a driver last night, we all agreed that it was probably a combination of a few more people than normal taking Uber to the game due to outsized snow/ice fears (remember that only the day before folks were taking hours to get home from work) and a number of drivers staying home for similar reasons.
Here are examples of multiple available cars being shown within a 1 square mile radius, while ETA is fairly high.
I can guarantee there are not that many cars around Wild Horse Park in Mustang. The only reason I can think of why they would intentionally populate the data like this is to misrepresent the number of available cars and the ETA of that car.

My fault, should have included this in the previous post, but here is also video from very active OKC Uber driver discussing the issue of "ghost cars".
Checked out his videos. Is he suppose to be videoing customers during rides. Seems this guy is way overstepping his boundaries.
seeing 3x pricing in midtown
must be the snow
Got $5000 to become a UBER driver? Tulsa lawmaker pushes to regulate Uber, Lyft & all ride-sharing companies that use app - KJRH.com
Just don't get in their cars wet. Woman protests Uber's $100 'bodily fluids' fee
All those regulations sound good to me. What I don't get is why none of these laws seek to protect the driver from the passenger? I personally think the law should require the passenger to use their picture within the app to. Also, it should require the passenger have their own act and can't be using a friend or family members account.
As for the $5,000 - that looks to be per company, not per driver.
Fares apparently went back up in the metro for Uber riders. Not back to where they used to be - still less than a taxi - but they did increase.
I saw that when I used Uber last night. I got a pop up that said these prices are permanent. I am not sure how they can make that claim as I am sure they will adjust again, however that would leave me to believe they won't move again soon. I didn't notice much difference in my fare for a trip I take often.
