His teams against Tubbs teams showcased some of the most entertaining basketball Oklahoma has ever seen.

Yes - very true. Ironic to lose two college bb coaching icons in the same week. I always liked Tark and from the conversation of those who were close to UNLV and college bb in general he was a really good guy. His defending national championship team that lost to Duke in '91 was loaded and that loss was a shocker at the time.

Infamous one with the wet towel:

Rest in Peace, Jerry--you were among the greatest personalities to coach the collegiate game.

Tark gets a thread but Dean Smith doesn't.

Heard the guy who wrote Tark's book interviewed on ESPN Friday - he was asked to identify another coach who he would compare to Tark and his first answer was Barry Switzer. He said it in a positive way - viewed as a bit of a rebel but coaches who really cared about players and were very successful.

In case you're unfamiliar with how message boards work, you are completely welcome to start your own thread about Dean Smith. No one here has been appointed the coaching death announcement thread starter. I just saw this article on Tark and posted a thread about it. It was not meant as a slight to any other coach who may have passed away. Instead of complaining, be a part of the solution.

    Good point,

I started a thread on Dean Smith since his comment; he has yet to post anything on it.
