Thread: Downton Abbey

    Default Downton Abbey

I was just wondering if there are other Downton Abbey addicts here. I basically ignored it for the first year but gradually became fascinated by it more and more and now my Sunday nights are planned around it when new episodes are airing. Much of it is predictable, but it's still so much fun and has so many interesting characters. My favorites are Violet and Thomas. Edith is just too tragic to ever get worked up about. I also really like Isobel and her zingers with her cousin Violet.

My wife and I watch it every week. I like The Butler. And Mr. Bates. The classic line from last night's show: The "Empress" Dowager: "(sigh)There's always something, isn't there." I hate soap operas, from Days of Our Lives to Dallas but I really like this show. I think it's the writing.

My wife and I watch it every week as well. Three more episodes until the end of the season and then next season will be the last. Barrow, Bates and Violet Crawley are my favorite characters. Mrs. Patmore has slowly creeped up there as well.

I have seen every episode multiple times and own the first 4 season on DVD. Last night I was very excited to see that Mr. Selfridge is coming back for Season 3.

It's already airing in the UK... I watch that one as well. I probably watch more British shows than American actually. Peaky Blinders, Luther, Mr. Selfridge, Happy Valley, Broadchurch, Downton, Sherlock. They're all so good.

My TV viewing is pretty limited to Downton, Selfridge, reruns of Big Bang on TBS, Gold Rush, and then filler from Discovery and History Channels.

My wife and I watch Downton together, great show. Who do you think killed Mr. Green?

No doubt in my mind it was Bates. He has an evilness about him that is just awesome. I doubt he will be caught though. He seems to have covered his tracks pretty well.

For it to be Bates he would have had to bought two tickets to London, one for the actual trip, and one to hold onto (the un-torn one in his coat) as 'proof' he never made the trip. I'll have to go back and watch that episode but where was Barrow when this happened? He always manages to redeem himself just when you hope his *** gets fired.

I can't understand how people like Barrow. I absolutely can't stand the guy.

But it's that way with a lot of the characters. Just when they do the most terrible things you can imagine one minute, they show a completely different side the next. That is why it is so much fun. Even that obnoxious Miss Bunting had a few good moments.

I don't think I've ever heard of another show that was followed by a separate 30 minute show with a panel discussion about what happened.

Just wanted to chime in and say I absolutely love Downton Abbey! It's currently my favorite show; I've watched every season multiple times, lol. The Dowager Countess is my favorite, as well as Lady Sybil before she died.

Well, I was way off. Sorry, I have a two month old so we don't get to watch the show Sunday night when it airs, it is usually Monday night when we get around to it. I am curious if it was someone else who had a grudge against and Bates happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's something about Barrow. I just can't stand him. Not very many good aspects about his character I can think of. As opposed to many on this thread(it seems), all of my favorite characters are upstairs...

I have heard some speculation about the death being tied to Lady Mary and perhaps Lord Gilliam. Or even Mrs. Hughes.

It's just hypothesizing based on the evidence, the characters, and their whereabouts at the time.

I was just wondering if you meant in this season or down the road in other seasons.

The Walking Dead is often followed by an hour long Talking Dead (and during the last couple of seasons, IIRC, Breaking Bad was followed by Talking Bad.

I don't want to spoil it, since I've seen the whole season, but it is really good.

Wife and I love it so much that we don't wait for the US release on PBS. We watch the iTV Brittish version which always airs like 6 months earlier. Anyone want spoilers on how series 5 ends?!?!?!?

Same thing I do. It's pretty easy to do, actually.

Having just watched the most recent episode of this show, it occurred to me that there should be offered some classes in the Public School System regarding Genteel as a second language. Sorry . . . gotta run . . . that wacky detective show featuring a priest is ready to start. Again: My apologies for misperceived slights or rudeness.
