That's way too small of a spot for Oncue. Not sure what that land is really good for since there is a oil well behind it and to the side of it there is a drainage canal. Probably why it's still abandoned.

The local 7-11 franchisee took advantage of their "gentleman's agreement" with QT far too long. It allowed them to remain complacent in terms of store design, amenities, and upgrades to their older locations since they did not have to compete with them. With On-Cues rapid proliferation into the OKC market...the chickens are finally coming home to roost.

Pete, while I agree with this, from what I am seeing, OnCue is not hurting them at all. The 7eleven across from the new OnCue at shields is busier than ever every time I drive by.

I don't know about busier but they have maintained about the same customer rate but I think it's going to catch up with them in the long run.

When they finally end their gas war I think both stores will slow down. I think that's when you will see the 7-11 start to feel the brunt of OnCue because right now the 7-11 is getting the overflow from OnCue's gas pumps all being occupied. When these two stores bring their gas prices back in line with the rest of the area I think both of their sales will slow and people will choose the OnCue over the 7-11.

It's going to be more of a marathon than a 100 yard dash between the two and while I think 7-11 can keep up in the 100 yard they will lose out in the marathon.

I'm surprised they can still function, actually. I interviewed for a UNIX systems admin position there and was shocked by how old and crappy their infrastructure was, as well as the questionable personnel policies they had in place. Didn't even consider it...

There are two OnCue stores and several 7-11 stores within two miles from me and I have never noticed any slacking of business at the 7-11 stores. The new 7-11 at MacArthur and NW Expressway is also well along in construction.

I know some people that work for them, they've seen what's coming and are developing a new store model along the lines of QT/On Cue. We'll see how it pans out, but it sounds pretty nice. The Hefner and May 7-11 is also not one of the bad ones. It's larger, cleaner and has a lot of gas pumps. Easiest gas station to get to on my commute, so I end up there a every few weeks. The Penn/122nd 7-11 is tiny, terrible and causes a ton of traffic problems, though.

I'll also add that OKC's 7-11s aren't a franchise. They own the 7-11 name inside the OKC area and all the stores are controlled by the same family owned company. Big corp 7-11 can't operate here.

Last time I was in Dallas I went into a 7/11 and it didn't even seem like the same store. Still not as nice as OnCue however.

I agree with Pete that the ones in OKC are the convenient store equivalent of Homeland. A few locations are acceptable, if only barely, but the vast majority have been run into the ground.

OnCue has managed to almost completely steal me away from 7/11. Though speaking of my usual location of Broadway & 9th in Edmond, I'm not seeing it on your map, Pete. I think the star around 33rd is meant to be it, but it's good two miles too far south.

NoOkie is correct that the 7-11 on May and Hefner isn't as bad as many of them. But it's still far, far away from being on a par with OnCue. Case in point: Bathrooms. Earlier this week we stopped there to get gas (only because my light came on and we were driving right by that 7-11). My little girl asked if we could go inside and get her an after-school snack. I was craving hot coffee, so I acquiesced. About the time we walked in, my daughter said she needed to use the restroom. That store only has one restroom, unisex, with one toilet and one sink. And of course someone was in there. So we waited, and waited, and waited. Finally we got to go in. Not filthy, but also not nice. Older fixtures, trash overflowing. Compare it to OnCue, where there are men's and women's restrooms, each with multiple toilets and sinks, very clean, and with the latest in technology (touch-free soap, paper towels, toilets).

OnCue has my vote over Oklahoma-model 7-11s any day. It's great that they're building one at 36th and May. I'm frequently in that area, so it will be a great convenience, for both fuel and snacks/drinks.

I believe technically 7-11 has zero public restrooms. That one restroom is meant for the employees unless their nice enough to let the customers use it.

In the OnCue's I've been in (just a few) their restrooms didn't have doors; instead, off-set entries like you would see in an airport restroom.

Which means you don't have to handle a door knob on your way in or out. That's a pretty big deal and nice touch, considering the amount of traffic those places get.

Yes, Pete, that is correct in every OnCue I've ever been to, and I've been to many different ones. They also have hand sanitizer dispensers.

It wasn't. 7-11 is a different corporation/company in the rest of the world, other than in a few counties in OK, Oklahoma county being one of them. The local 7-11 stores are owned by someone else, a descendent of one of the original partners that split from the big 7-11 way back, I believe...
