Thread: Car Spotting in OKC

This all reminds me of that old Jay Leno routine before he became famous . . .
(with apologies for the inaccurate paraphrase) . . .

"What's with these new cars today? They aren't anything like those old roadbarges with the solid steel dashboards and no seatbelts . . . You could have a major head-on collision in one of those, hose it out, scrape the Hundais and Kias out from under the wheel wells and resell it for more than you paid for it . . . The only airbags involved might have been your Father-in-Law in the back seat waxing all nostalgic about the lack of spokes on the wheels . . ."

(new cars are better . . . in too many ways to count)

Most hot rodders these days remove the catalytic converters as well...So you can even get that stinky exhaust that smells up your clothes and your woman's hair while your car lopes and shudders like it's trying to hit an 8 on the Richter scale.
. . . and "trying to hit an 8 on the Richer scale" is code for what? =)

Let me add to Mel's comment that taking a ride in a big block Mopar, or 302 Camaro, back in the day, rowing through the gears, keeping it straight in the lane and getting it shut down in time took skill, and many times, guts. .... and style.

That looked like a Garcia y Vega cigarillo in the first clip.
No sense in wasting good money on an expensive cigar.
On the bright side . . . it could have been a Garcia y Pinto.

The term "Gear Rower" is new to me . . . Yet, it sounds Marvelous . . . =)

To add layers of texture . . . This is the first 45 I ever bought.
(I sold the other .45 to pay some utility bills right after the fallout from the Penn Square Fiasco)

Well,... That's a term I've heard off and on over the years.

Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins was not only one of the best tuners, but was known as having some of the fastest reactions off the line, and one of the best and most acurate with a four speed.

Sorry about taking us so far off topic.

I took these shots at the Walmart, 15th & I-35 in Edmond a while ago. 1977-79 T-Bird with a very high quality paint job.

I captured this little jewel ... a '62 Oldsmobile F-85 Convertible,.. at a car lot on the corner of Park Pl. and Broadway a couple months ago while on a scooter ride. I went by there again a couple weeks later and the whole lot was empty.

My first car was a '65 Falcon. The 289 in it was an easy engine to work on and dependable.

Now I'm pissed off . . . My humble VW (with the EuroTurnSignalnonFunctionalSemaphoreTurnSignals) (that could barely approach the "ScenicBoulder Overlook" on The Federal Paid HIghway to-and-from Boulder/Denver survived the Honking at 45mph. (yet, somehow, didn't required a lot of anti-freeze =) Dang . . . I recon it ran on Magnetism.

Yes. Yes they are. Yes, for sure.
(and where, herein lies the truthful comedy punchline?)
(link the observation to carbon footprint/planetary concert and wait for the check)

OK . . . I'll admit it: I'm OLD. If I cared about a Pet Lawn I'd probably holler at kids to get off of it (or maybe suggest, in a semi-kindly manner, that there might be other alternatives).

Driving back home, just today, after running a couple of errands, I encountered someone in the inside lane, northbound on May, going about 20 mph. In a Benz. I couldn't resist the urge to honk and I never honk. I figured it was a Texter, but No: It was someone at the wheel of this Luxury Car who probably started driving back when automobile wheels still had spokes.

It reminded me of a similar encounter on Penn the other day except, in that case, it was a Lexus piloted by someone who might have graduated with "Ms. Benz" back in the day. Unfortunately, I didn't take my hands off the wheel to take photos of either of those two Space Invaders but I did take a few Car Spotting shots of others of their ilk. I'd caption the captures: "Hey You Kids, Get Out of My Space--and/or My Lane!"--but I'm too old and feeble to know how to do that . . .

So . . . Simply call these: "Reminders for The Parkingly Challenged":
    Attachment 9768
    Attachment 9769
    Attachment 9770
    Attachment 9772
    Attachment 9771

I had a couple of others, but apparently they exceeded the allowable bandwidth . . .
Thanks, in advance retrospect, for allowing some venting (a.k.a./co/ Pressure Solutions)

    (and, after reviewing the evidence . . . it's probably a good thing. =)
(obviously, it's better than an old fart. =)

So . . . (the rhetorical question, here, might be):
If one is "rich" enough to drive a Benz or a Lexus . . .
Why isn't hiring a driver or shofer (sp?) a cost-effective answer?

[Mel started it . . . With that "Voices in the Head" deal . . .]
(not to mention the most recent Sonic Commercial)

I haven't seen this VW on the corner of 2nd & Broadway in a while and figured it sold until I came across it on Craigslist still for sale. .... $15k.

I am curious to know what cars Thunder players and others associated with the team drive? I think Russell Westbrook used to drive a white Lambo. I wonder if any of them drive some of the high dollar cars seen around town?

    Bigray in Ok

I think Westbrook has an orange Lambo now, KD used to have an Audi R8, and I think I've seen Ibaka in a white camaro.
