OK drug sentenses are strange
Let me see if I have this right..... people have gone to prison for several years for having pot in OK but a political consultant gets probation for cocaine and other charges?
Before his drug arrest last May, Chad Alexander was considered one of the most influential political consultants and lobbyists in Oklahoma.
On Wednesday, after he pleaded guilty, the judge asked if he has a job.
“Not currently, your honor,” his defense attorney, Tommy Adler, said.
Alexander, 41, of Choctaw, was put on probation for five years after pleading guilty Wednesday to felony cocaine possession.
He also pleaded guilty to another felony, illegally possessing pain pills without a prescription, and to a misdemeanor, obstructing a police officer.
Under a plea deal, he agreed to pay $500 in fines and $500 to a victims’ fund. He agreed to complete 40 hours of community service.
He also agreed to continue the treatment he began for substance dependency after his May 13 arrest in Oklahoma City. That treatment includes attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings at least once weekly.
He agreed to twice monthly drug tests the first year of his probation and random drug tests the second year.
Alexander was arrested during a traffic stop after buying $200 worth of cocaine from a known drug trafficker, police said. The pain pills were found inside his 2014 Mercedes-Benz.
During the traffic stop, he presented a police officer a badge from the Cleveland County district attorney’s office and identified himself at first as an assistant district attorney, police said.
He had been given the badge when he was hired to be a part-time public information officer in 2007. He was last employed in that position in 2008 but kept the badge.
