Thread: Any good places to ride dune buggies near OKC

  1. Default Any good places to ride dune buggies near OKC

Looking for somewhere near OKC to take some sandrails/dune buggies off-roading.

I'm familiar with Little Sahara - but that's almost two hours away and can be quite dangerous depending on how many people are there.

I prefer sand (have paddle tires naturally), but also like packed dirt (set of off-load tires).

We've been going to the Cimarron River in Guthrie and its a blast, but looking for somewhere new that is relatively close by.

Have also tried the river near SE 23rd and Sooner - that's a lot of fun too, but the 'No Motorized Vehicles Allowed' sign you have to pass to untrailer the buggy is a bit nerve-racking. Never seen police there and there is always 4-10 other buggies, Razors, 4-wheelers, dirt bikes, etc. there.

So, I prefer a legal place to ride.

Purcell used to be open to stuff like that.

I guess it depends upon one's definition of "Local" or "Near".
Waurika is up there next to "The Okie Sand Dunes/Little Sahara".
Just a stone's throw west 'o Enid and a little to the north. =)
yet, obviously, you already knew that.
Did I say Waurika? I meant Waynoka. (dang)

    'course . . . more locally . . . there's always the body dumping ground just north of Draper Lake . . . =)

how 'bout down 'round where they are f'in up that bridge remodeling project . . .
    in the vicinity of Purcell/Lexington?
can't be no complaints about outsiders creating carbon footprints down thar' . . ..
    rite?

Sorry, Amigo: Based strictly upon your OP here, on this thread, you have become an elitist. =)
Is this the sort of question filming ho's n ho mongers births?
(where to ride my dune buggy?)

edited to add: "don't judge, because you will be judged by exactly the same standard that you apply in your judgment of others." I forgot that for a moment. sorry.

The WakeZone place in SE OKC claims to have an off road course available for a small use fee. I may check that out soon. Anyone been there?

We decided to go ahead and head out to Little Sahara in the morning. Probably going to be packed.

It's not really any closer but there is riding out at the dam at eufaula lake.

We decided to spend the afternoon at Little Sahara. If you've never been its a really great place to take in the scenery and have some adventure on an off-load vehicle.

If you don't own one, you can rent them near the park entrance.

Below is a short video I shot with my iPhone before we got crazy.....

Was that taken with a GoPro? The image stabilization is amazing.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like fun, and probably the crazier stuff you did not include would look like even more fun.

This thread just reminds me of the good times we had in our buggy years ago.

I'll take that as a complement then. That was all handheld with an iPhone 6. And, other than the shot where I turn the phone towards my son as he drove, I was actually driving and shooting with the other hand. That's the only reason I didn't get any real action footage (needed both hands on the wheel and full attention on what was going on around me). I'll attach a few GoPros to the roll cage on the next visit (later this month).

Shot and edited in phone. I used an app called VideoShop.

Little Sahara State Park is where some friends of mine used to go with their buggies.

Used to be able to get on the S Canadian river bed out by Union City, we used to ride our dirt bikes out there and there were always a few buggies around but that was 30 years ago....
