Thread: Microsoft Store

    Default Microsoft Store

Opening in November at the Woodland Hills Mall.

Microsoft announced its full-sized, permanent Microsoft Store in Woodland Hills Mall will open Nov. 20.

The store, which will replace the kiosk Microsoft has operated since fall 2012, will feature 2,733 square feet of Microsoft products, including Windows 8 PCs, tablets, Windows Phones, Xbox One game systems, Microsoft Office and more.

Microsoft plans to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. that day. The store will employ between 40 and 50 people.

In 2009, Microsoft Corp. opened its first Microsoft retail store in Scottsdale, Arizona. Since then, it has opened 104 retail locations.

Cool I guess, I've only ever seen 1 or 2 people in the one at Penn Square Mall. Their prices are pretty nuts, you can usually find far cheaper devices and games at Best Buy and other types of stores.

They killed it at the OKC opening and I have heard it was Microsoft Store's fourth highest grossing grand opening.

When I'm there, I usually see 5-8 people in there at any given time. They aren't any worse than Apple in terms of pricing but the Apple store is always packed.

Windows 10 (I don't really understand skipping 9) may make an impact too. Since 8 was such a flop, it might explain why so many people haven't been interested. And phones are always a better deal with a plan. I think MS tends to think of these as a gallery where sales are a plus. Like you said, you aren't going to go in a buy a Dell laptop at the MS store, but you might learn about some software or something else. At the end of the day, they still get the $ because you bought a Dell with MS Windows. And globally, they still kick Apples tail. Remember, outside of the U.S., Android is the #1 phone OS as well. That doesn't help MS or anything, but the U.S. tends to overstate the importance of Apple because of it's perceived "coolness". Personally, I hate crapple.

I'm told they skipped 9 because so much software checks a version number of Windows 9x for Win 95 and 98 that Windows 9 would cause too much trouble.

I've heard that to, but someone else commented on here that wasn't the case, but did not provide any further detail.

Some would consider 8.1 version 9. And the software check is a very real issue. It's bad coding, but better to not mess with it and go right to 10.

This article from CNET gives a pretty good explanation:

Is this why Microsoft named it Windows 10? - CNET
