I think this was referenced in the aquatic center thread but probably good to have its own thread.

They've started the dirt work. Couldn't figure out what they were doing until I saw this thread.
Super excited about this!
Diana Baldwin's Edmond Exchange has reported this to be open before the end August!

Was there an issue that came up with this or was this just poorly planned? Seems odd that it doesn't open til the end of summer when kids are already back in school. I realize there has been a lot of rain this summer but originally I think it wasn't supposed to be done til the end of July. Almost seems like they should have waited on it. It seems like now it will get built and not used as the season will be nearly over.
Splash pads usually don't take this long to compete. It's been panned for over a year and took like 4-5 months to finish.
I don't get the big to do about what is basically a series of water wiggles atop a slab of cement.
It'll be open just in time for Halloween!!!!
Barnett Field Splash Pad Ribbon Cutting and Opening set for this Friday at 4:00 pm!

My wife went to the grand opening today with the kids. Other people there had the same question I did: Not real sure why they had to take out the softball field for this when chitwood park is right across the street and has a lot of land that isn't heavily used. Oh well, we are still excited about it.
I would go snap some shots, but I don't want to be 'that guy' who is off behind the crowd taking pictures of little kids playing. It just looks weird. But it does look cool though. Had one in Dallas I used to take my sister to.
Phase 2 of this goes before the city council.

I thought I would add this City Manager's progress report in that mentions additions to this splash pad coming up:
