Thread: Bricktown Shakeup

  1. Default Re: Bricktown Shakeup

I recall OBrien's in Bricktown as the it place back in the day.

Guys, I think downtown just needs to follow Charlotte's lead and get higher quality dance clubs. Every happening city needs a club scene and I'm not talking about JUST the LCD clubs but that upscale, EDM centric place to be seen and dance your a$$ off or take visitors from out of town when they ask if 'OKC has anything to do.'

To me it isn't an either or proposition, okc just needs high quality dance clubs downtown that further enhance it as an entertainment destination. Basically, I'm thinking of Vancouver's Granville Downtown Entertainment District as I'm writing this (but a smaller scale for OKC obviously, maybe only two or three high quality clubs in close proximity to be 'hopped'). Can have bars and live music venues mixed with the clubs but they would be the high draw - and command a high admission fee/dress code and no tolerance for 'trouble'.

    I agree 100%

Let me restate that Charlotte doesn't have a ton of dance clubs downtown. Less than OKC actually and less than you would expect in a city of 2.4 million. However, the ones they do have are very high quality. Club 115 is pretty close to the kind of place I am talking about. I think if the remaining trashy $1 beer clubs were shut down and replaced with that type of venue there would be a lot less complaining about the dance clubs.

Is there a market here that consists of young club goers here that will pay substantial cover charges and $12-$15 drink charges? It is great to talk about wanting the "high end" clubs, but there has to be a willingness to pay for it....not just once in a while, but consistently. It seems to me that what is supported here is low cost high alcohol joints. Tell me if I am wrong. Tell me WHY it is a good investment to put one or more in OKC. What kind and what size of crowds would you expect?...not just on Friday and Saturday night, but during the week? Make a case for it like you were selling the idea on Shark Tank.

More like something with $10 cover, a proper dress code, and $7-15 drinks. A lot of people would be surprised what could be supported in OKC that people don't realize could be because it's never existed here. Being that cities much smaller than OKC support these venues, I don't see why they couldn't work here. And its not like OKC needs a ton of them, just one or two more in addition to Club One15.

I am not sure if anybody has mentioned this but Circus Party Bar opened where Club Albee used to be. Being that new clubs are opening, this definitely isn't the end for Bricktown clubs.

And Sid you are right about Club One15. That is a quality, big-city style nightclub. It needs consistent crowds though.

very good to hear. now we need the dance clubs to promote themselves as the IT place to be and seen in OKC. Promote the music and/or personalities/stars to get the upper echelon audience.

Again, I don't think we need a lot of clubs but we do need a few, high quality ones so OKC can check off that 'something to do' box for those who want that scene.
