Even though I loathe their anti-contraceptive viewpoints (I know, wrong forum), I think it is a cool looking building and I hope they continue to help people in need.

Just speaking to the nation-wide reach thing... not sure how true that is in this case (but I don't know for sure)...

I don't know the funding source for this building, but otherwise, operationally, Catholic Charities of Oklahoma City doesn't get any national funding. It's essentially an independent local organization with a national affiliation (they pay dues to a national org in order to have the "Catholic Charities" in the name). Their operational budget (~$4M) is achieved through fundraising in the Archdiocese of OKC (half of which comes from the Green Tie Gala), and 90%+ of that goes directly back into the local community (basically one of the best places you can send your money in OKC to make sure it stays in OKC). Similar to the Catholic hospitals, they are not owned or operated by the Catholic Church, but are operated as a Catholic-supported organization with the blessing of the Archbishop of Oklahoma City.

Just wanted to address a couple of points as we go public with this campaign. But first, thank you all for your kind words about this project and the organization. We love doing what we do and we do it because we are Catholic not because those whom we serve are Catholic. In fact, 90% of those who walk through our doors aren't Catholic and success to us is defined as getting people to a better place in life and strengthening families, not conversion. As Shawn pointed out, we are indeed a local 501(c)(3) with ties to the national organization (CCUSA). They provide us with training opportunities and advocacy on national level, but we receive very little funding (the exception being grants we may receive to assist with disaster recovery. Our primary source of funding (55% or so) comes through our Annual Appeal which is conducted each fall and really only through the Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese. That being said, we do receive support from corporations, foundations and government (only 6% through gov't). The Green Tie Gala, held annually in March, only supports our homeless services (Holy Family Home in Midwest City and the Sanctuary Women's Development Centers in Stockyards City and Norman). And yes, 90% of every dollar goes back into our programs to support those who come to us and is spent only in Oklahoma (we serve 46 counties in western and central Oklahoma). The final stat I'll throw out is that we serve about 19,000 individuals each year, 13,000 of which come to our main services building on Classen (which this campaign seeks to construct a new building for).

Anyone know if this is about to break ground or the status? They did a ground breaking ceremony about a month ago or so, but nothing has been done since.

The filed for a building permit a few months ago but it's yet to be issued.

We are in the final stages of raising funds for the building. Everything is still very much a go for this project.

I like the updated renderings of the new building. My one complaint with the initial renderings were the arched windows of the chapel which looked odd. The new renderings have rectangular windows for the chapel which flows with the styling of the rest of the building.

I agree, the new squared design looks better. Also love that brick facade. Just adds to the area. The Catholic Cross Mural will look good on the end of the building too.

$5.9 million building permit application for this project today.

They had previously submitted an application but that was labeled "preliminary only". This seems to be the real deal.


Could see dirt moving here soon.

Construction is set to start in the next few weeks on a $7 million new home for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.

I suspect they won't sell -- if at all -- until their new home is ready for move-in, which won't be for a year or two.

Thanks for posting, I saw that on Monday but hadn't had a chance to log on site here in a week or so. Yeah they appear to be moving forward as I've seen them out there prepping dirt daily this week.

This is a quick render for a mall entry remodel in Euless. They ended up not going forward with the project or else I would have done a more complete render.
