The mall has stated they are on schedule for a October opening. This will be the biggest thing to happen to either Penn square or Quail Springs in quite some time.

I know. I am hoping this is the beginning of a comeback for Quail Springs from what appeared to be the early stages of becoming Crossroads.

Huge difference between Crossroads and QSM. Surrounding neighborhoods is a huge one.

Absolutely, but I remember Crossroads in the late '90s and early '00s when the national chains started to be replaced by cheap mom and pop stores. That was starting to happen at Quail Springs. That is always the first step towards the eventual decline of a mall. Crossroads has Valley Brook near it but Quail Springs has the large swaths of problem apartments at 122nd and Penn. Both malls have very high-income areas within their trade areas.

I'm sorry, i think it's a stretch to say QSM was on the same path.

I would say having an AMC theater inside the mall definitely helped. If it wasn't for the theater, there's a good chance a developer would have eventually come in and put a strip mall in its place.

That's also the main workforce for the area that keeps all these retail establishments along Memorial supplied with workers. Those apartments could be a lot worse, their "Blue collar worker" apartments.

I noticed at least 3 spaces around Von Maur have closed. I'm guessing the mall decided to not renew the leases so they could get some better tenants in.

    Where exactly?

Are they all next to one another? Could they be consolidated for a bigger tenant?

Interesting. I wonder where the rumored H&M will go if it ends up in QSM.

The last couple of times I visited QSM, that wing of the mall was pretty much a ghost town. Without an anchor on that end, not much traffic that makes it down there. I wouldn't be surprised is some of the store closings could be at least partially attributed to a loss of business.

The same thing happened at Crossroads when Montgomery Wards went out of business. That wing slowly lost business and died.

On the other hand, Von Maur will be the biggest draw to any mall in OKC so those spaces should become much more coveted than they ever were when Sears was in business.

Pearl Vision moved and the GNC store closed. There's also a store on the lower level that closed.

I agree. Hopefully this begins a new era for Quail Springs Mall. I would love to see it get some more exclusive tenants. Hopefully this also ends the bleed of national retailers that are getting replaced by cheapo local retailers. I would also like to see Dillard's and Macy's remodel their stores as well. There is a huge difference between the stores at Quail Springs and the ones at Penn Square.

Maybe Von Maur demanded better neighbors ... and got it.

My former employer, Tuxedo Junction, is still there on the SE corner, lower level. They're in a great location when Von Maur opens their entrance!

I've been told by very good sources that Quail Springs will be shaking up their tenant mix over the next 1-2 years, as current leases expire and new retailers take their place.

They will also be shifting some existing stores around.

They have a seen a big increase in interest since Von Maur was announced and have been aggressively marketing and recruiting.

The mall is likely to see big changes for the better in the next couple of years.

Meant to mention that Von Maur will be opening in mid-October.

Expect an official date to be announced in the next couple of months.

Just visited the location in Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham, and was NOT impressed.
Don't get me wrong, the layout and appearance were very nice; just didnt feel like the merchandise warranted comparisions to Nordstrom's (or above Dillard's).
It gave off the vibe of a republican's outfitters....

I think I've heard it before that their stores can range in upscale\quality of goods. Please tell me this is true, and if so, please tell me the one we're getting is going to carry a nicer selection of clothing, shoes, etc.

All department stores have different levels of merchandising plans. The new Nordstrom nearest me does not sell nearly as many upscale lines as the one about 20 miles to the east.

We won't know the level of merchandising until the store opens.
