Alternate 1 is butt ugly. Alternate 2 is...less horrendous.
I can admit I'm old school, but I could handle a cool alternate. I don't think Nike did OU any favors. These are...underwhelming.
My kid will be stoked, tho, and since he's a lot closer to their target demographic than I am, I'm sure my opinion is largely irrelevant![]()
Dave, this is for the recruits and younger fans..
I'm old school but understand the value of doing this sort of thing once in a while.
I actually LOVE the white helmets.
I felt almost the opposite way, while I am not crazy about it alternate one I thought it was ok but underwhelming, the alternate two photo seemed like one of the freshmen mixed and matched equipment he could grab from the archives that was not intended to go together during summer practice for an I have arrived photo.
Alternate 2 is actually very similar to throwbacks OU wore in early 2000s, which were based on 50s-era unis, so I'm cool with them. They've added the interlocking OU to the helmet and made the numerals more old-fashioned (20s, 30s era?), plus it looks like the red star on the sleeve made it from alternate 1 but disappears into the red jersey, but overall I'm OK with it. For reference:
The traditionalist in me wants to hate alternate 1, because I'm pretty sure it is not based on anything in OU's history. But I will grudgingly say it is (KIND OF) cool.
As for this, it is straight badass and makes me want football season to start tomorrow:

I'm too old I guess. I'm for tradition. Those things are just butt ugly. The second alternate looks like a Nebraska uniform. I know the "kids" want this crap...but I guess my feeling is...if this junk is what makes a kid decide to go one place or another...then do we really want/need that kid? I understand some kids really do choose a school because of the uniform, but that is so stupid. What kind of commitment is there from a kid if they make life decisions based on a uniform?
Oh well...thats JMHO
^^^^^^^
I also sortof feel like this too. I guess what I am saying is that they are making the tweaks minor enough to stay current for recruitment purposes, but still retaining tradition. It is a tough line to walk for sure.
Oops. I missed the #BringTheWood hashtag. That is a bit troubling.
^
I used to be against this sort of thing but once or twice a year is fine and I'm sure that's all it will be.
I like they didn't completely crap all over tradition and at least didn't make anything too crazy looking.
As someone who's rapidly approaching 30, I'm hardly the target demographic here. Not feeling these at all, although the last retro ones are pretty cool.
With that in mind, they can wear tutu's if that means we go 12-0 and get a 'ship. It doesn't mean a whole lot in the grand scope of things.
Anytime there is change, you're going to have a 'chain' reaction. These uniforms will eventually grow on you; you won't realize the change in most cases until you look back at what the fashion use to be.
Remember the helmet change?
"Oklahoma City looks oh-so pretty... ...as I get my kicks on Route 66." --Nat King Cole.
Exactly. I am not opposed to wearing these once or twice a year. I don't like the OSU or Oregon deals where the unis change every game and you have to pretty much relearn who is who since you are aren't used to the combination of colors anymore. I loved when they did the throwbacks in 2003 and welcome something like this twice a year. It will be cool for recruits but combining that with the new weight room, stadium, athletic dorms, etc will be a huge recruiting tool.
woof!
Agree with Warren. While I'm not crazy about this, the designs are pretty cool and hopefully this will be for only one home and one away game a year. OU is one of a handful of teams: Bama, USC, Penn State, Texas, etc. that don't need to have gimmicky uniforms. Their uniforms are super cool as is.
I'll go one further: the more a program tinkers with its uni, the further they are from traditional powerhouse status. That's why I was hoping we'd more or less leave it alone forever.
Barry Trammel's take on this.

I’m no fashion expert. I only know what I like, and what I would like is for Nike to remove its big fat nose from the business of college football, but may the good Lord take a liking to me on that one.
But I also understand that things change. The forward pass, two-platoon football, the demise of 30,000 fedoras watching the game on Owen Field. Nothing stays the same. So if the culture demands that OU get a little hip with its uniforms, I know the best possible result is retention of the traditional look, with an occasional splashy alternate.
I like what Joe C says here. He gets it. We're not scrapping tradition.
I'm not a fan of the alternative uniforms, particularly the helmet stripe. But, they aren't bad enough that I absolutely hate them. I can tolerate them for a few games.
Love the new look, about time, this is long overdue.
