The watch party at Skinny Slims was incredible last night. They gave out well over 500 wristbands. Really good atmosphere with everyone being friendly and fired up. Hell, even the 5 guys wearing Ghana flags were treated well.
Great time, can't wait for more!

While it does look awesome in those pics, I did hear that it was a ton of people and not really easy to actually see the game on the few tvs they had. But it is always fun to watch something like this with a bunch of your fellow countrymen.

It was so windy that their original plan to have a huge projection screen was nixed. As a result, they had to scramble. They bought two 70 inch LED televisions and mounted them to a moving truck. It wasn't ideal but the best solution in a pinch.

Actual viewing wasn't great, but the atmosphere was worth it.

I was there too. Pretty great. My friends from Knuck's Wheelhouse made a killing. Beer was flowing. The Ghana dudes got to cheer a goal, yet it still worked out for the USA. I wasn't planning on being there, so had the misfortune to wear a (Triumph) T-shirt with a Union Jack on the front. Got some ribbing on that.

The organizers are looking into another TV solution for the next game.

Nice thing about Fútbol is that as long as you know what time the half started, you can use any clock to know what amount of time is left.

When I went to see Liverpool and Man U play at Anfield in the late 90's, they didn't even have a scoreboard.

They had a large analog clock at each end that just showed the time of day.

I couldn't believe it and in some ways, still can't. This was the 90's not the 20's.

But fans obviously were used to keeping game time on a regular clock and probably felt anyone that needed to consult a board for the score wasn't paying xlose enough attention.


At one point in the game, Man U scored a goal at the far end from where we were sitting. At least I think they did, because it just turned very quiet and the ManX players were cavorting and I desperately wanted just to see confirmation on a scoreboard, because I certainly didn't want to ask my Liverpool-loving friends at that point.

Unfortunately, with it being during day time, Im not sure how you could show a game on a projection screen. Now if someone wants to take down the outdoor video screen on CHK Arena and set it up on the lawn, then yes, that would be awesome.

Or just recreate Thunder Alley for a watch party on that screen.

However, with the previous problems I suspect that will never happen, which is a crying shame. That setting is perfect for something like this.

Other cities in the U.S. (and around the world) are organizing big public watch parties and here we have this awesome, publicly funded jumbotron that fronts an area that is frequently closed for similar purposes, and we just leave everything to the bars.

There would still be time to organize something at the Peake if the U.S. advances.

I remember Mick saying they were going to have to close it down anyways since it was getting too big (that's what she said) and this was just a more logical thing to blame it on. I don't know if they had or needed permission from the league. Did Toronto get permission from the league?
