This and the Guyutes projects are important pivot points: Do we allow a few homeowners to block hundreds of thousands of investment in what would be super sharp, creative projects that would bring life and nightlife to an important corridor? Or do we stand up and let decision makers know that they are in the minority and that the City is hungry for these types of places?
Where can we read the protest letters?

I just called the planning department.

Please send letters of support to: michael.philbrick@okc.gov.

Reference UDCA-14-00008; proposed Daebak K restaurant at 312 NW 23rd.

They aren't made public until the agenda is released a few days before the meeting.

I'll post them when they become available.

Just heard that they have already received some.

    Thanks for the update.

Sometimes I hate my neighbors. These people are idiots at times, its freaking unbelievable.

It really seems to be just a handful of people; the vocal minority.

Time to demonstrate they do not represent the prevailing attitudes of the neighborhood or the City, and take away their power.

This could be a catastrophic precedent. If they are allowed to block this, how will 23rd ever be properly developed?

Not sure why the planning department would even consider these. Pizza 23, Orange Leaf, etc all have been opened recently near that same stretch. I guess I will get to writing letters...

Yeah, I hear you. Am I allowed to attend these even though I live in Edmond?

It baffles me that someone can do something unequivocally within their rights as property owners (of these parcels on 23rd) and yet Homeowners can have any sway in any regard.

Simply put, if the Homeowner's have a problem, the onus should be on them to get the laws changed, but not to block development that literally follows ordinance to a T. Nothing that's been proposed on 23rd in the last year and a half has been even remotely questionable. The city should simply say to the homeowners "We appreciate your input, unfortunately, it has no sway given what is within the rights of said property owners".

At some point, is the city not putting itself at risk of a lawsuit by blocking these developments on grounds that are not legally justified?

I created an on-line petition that can be forwarded to the planning commission in advance of their meetings:

MoveOn Petitions - Support of Guyutes and Daebak K in OKC's Updtown District

    Already at 55 signatures.

Would be nice to get a couple of hundred before the meetings.

Wow - signed it too. I had no idea that people who actually live in the core of the city had objections to it's ongoing revitalization and development. Ridiculous! Who are these people and what are their objections? They don't want more good restaurants/shops/commerce in their neighborhood? Huh?

The owner of the building with Pizza 23 and Orange Leaf signed the petition.

I really doubt anyone is against this other than a very few homeowners to the south.

People will object to parking. (Not important because despite what they or any planning commissioners say parking is not required). And hours. Planning commission likes to talk about parking on and on and "concerns" to get consessions on other issues ie time
