Mr. Selfridge

[Just the facts]

For those who can't wait to get their fix on the next season of Downton Abbey might I suggest you give Mr Selfridge a try. It is the story of American born Harry Selfridge who moves to London in 1908 to revolutionize the retail department store industry. I am only 3 episodes in (the show is already in the second season) and it is really good. If you are watching it and more than 3 episode don't tell me what happens.

This show looks interesting but I've held back because of Jeremy Piven. Haven't cared for him in the past.

I am not familiar with him so he didn't bring any baggage to the show for me. It is based on a true story and for some reason I am really starting to like the period dramas.

I've been watching it from the beginning and love it. As usual, for British television, the acting is first rate. I was amazed to find out that the woman playing his wife was actually British. It is historically based but, of course, things have been changed somewhat for dramatic license.

Decided not to watch Season 2 after watching all of Season 1. We gave it up. Not a big Piven fan either. Kind of an over-actor.

I wasn't a fan of Piven in Entourage but like him in this. His forte is playing agressive wheeler dealers. He did, however, win a Golden Globe and 3 Emmys for Entourage.

Well sadly my DVR missed a few episodes so I am at a stand still. I did a search and the missing episodes don't appear to be coming on anytime soon so I guess I have to go buy the DVDs.

I've been a Jeremy Piven fan since PCU and was an avid watcher of Entourage where he was easily my favorite character. So, when this show came out, I was intrigued to say the least. I feel it is just the right compliment to the Downton Abbey kind of drama that PBS/OETA puts out. Piven really sunk his teeth into this role and it was very well researched. I do feel his parts are a little poorly acted at times but all the featured players I think make up for those parts. His interaction with his wife in the second season (not giving anything away) is a little hard to watch for me because I think the situations could be handled better on both sides, but that is why it is a drama.

Good news - was able to order the whole first season on Blu-Ray from B&N for $22. Should have it on Thursday.

Season 2 was just released yesterday. The BluRay version is available at most places for $44 but was able to order it last night on DVD Planet for $25.

We went on a hunch that it would be as good as Downton, and I have enjoyed it more! We bought the dvd of Season 1 and was not disappointed at all. Just like Downton, all the characters have strong roles and great casting!

... and the "period" time of turn of the century ( early 1900's) in London, is cool. ...but I do enjoy history. Give it a try.

This and The Paradise are very similar shows. I guess this is on Sky and Paradise is on BBC?
