Odd that there are two different stories being reported of what really happened.
That was pretty dumb.
Thanks. Seems fairly mundane. A lot of places, sheriffs don't get the same privileges at state and federal facilities. It's because they're elected and don't necessarily have the same certifications and background checks as regular commissioned officers. I generally don't see any reason to differentiate.
Can't be taking their guns away. Turns them into targets like ordinary people.
That was prominent in the local news several days ago. I'm surprised you're just now finding out about it.

I'm sick and tired of the bellyaching of today's law enforcement. You're not super citizens or a special class. Rules should apply the same to you as to anybody else. Heck, your occupation doesn't even crack the top 10 most dangerous jobs. Where did today's cop get the massive sense of entitlement. Can't we privatize these folks already.
I blame the show "Cops". Until that show they didn't feel the need to all act like bullies.
I work for a federal law enforcement agency training center. If you aren't a resident officer you don't carry here no matter who you are. A few years ago an officer here for a refresher course accidentally discharged his sidearm in the training room. Since then all visiting officers must check their firearms at the door or remove the ammo and dry fire into a safe containment unit to show the firearm to be unloaded. I, for one, feel safer. My office is just sheetrock away from the training room.
... This guy better stick to his Colt 40.

I discharged a firearm accidentally once ..... once.
It's the kind of thing that will stick with you. Most folks won't have a repeat.
