Thread: Sequoia Automall

  1. #1

    Far North Sequoia Automall

A massive, 53.64 acre 7-dealership auto mall is proposed for Memorial between Western and Santa Fe.

To be called Sequoia Automall, it will consist of seven separate car dealership buildings and 3 smaller service buildings.

This would be on vacant land directly east of Reynolds Ford.

Nice! Will provide some good infill. Hopefully they will do something cool and have unique design instead of the traditional car lots around here.

How many more car dealerships can this area have? This is only about a mile or two from the bob Moore/bob Howard auto mall.

Don't bet the bank on that, plupan. A car dealership by definition will have a sea of parking and there is only so much you can do about that. They obviously won't want a lot of trees because trees attract birds and you know what kinds of nice deposits birds leave on cars.

Learned that the hard way parking under a tree downtown and walking to a Blazer's game.

What's funny is that the site layout here is still yet more "new urbanist" than Lower Bricktown or Classen Curve

Well of course there has to be parking. What I mean, it will provide some "infill" in the sense the space will be filled and put to a good use. Hopefully this dealership will break away from the traditional auto mall designs and add in some quality features that will beautify it a bit. It would be cooler to see a parking garage similar to the Mercede's dealer in Plano, but I can understand not having that for a cheaper car manufacturer.

It is hard to imagine seven auto makes that aren't already in that area.

However, it does indicate that the national economy is coming back pretty strong, as it wasn't that long ago we had tons of empty former car dealerships due to the recession and bankruptcy of several auto makers.

Is there anything new to Bob Howard trying to secure a Bently dealership here?

Ironic isn't it? Buildings are pushed up relatively close to the street, with the parking behind the stores.

And this appears to resemble a solid physical connection of N Walker between Memorial and the Kilpatrick

You're right. This restores the grid...

This actually isn't as bad as I originally feared.

With less parking than the typical main line brands this may very well be some "exclusive" type brands that do not floor plan as many vehicles as a typical domestic of Japanese/Korean import lot. Several of the specialty brands have much less parking in Austin and here in Denver, most have the vehicles indoors with some used outdoors. With separate buildings they may be building to brand prototypes.

Are there any franchises secured yet? If so, do we know what automakers will be here?

Now that private enterprise located north of Kilpatrick can restore the grid, why can't ODOT do this for downtown when GIFTED the opportunity?

Speaking of car dealerships...I noticed there's a bob Moore sign along Kelly across from the Toyota dealership. I'm told they are building a new dealership in that empty lot on the east side of Kelly. I am unsure of the brand that's going to be built if that's even decided yet.

I noticed every dealership I saw in Vancouver had only cars inside. Absolutely no lots. The only way I knew it was a dealership was by looking through the window. Looked like any other type of store. Took me by surprise.

Maserati is also coming to Bob Moore.

  20. Default Re: Sequoia Automall

Maserati would make some sense, considering the recent uptick in affluence (or at least, conspicuous consumption) around here. Not to mention the fact that a week or two ago I saw my first ever Maserati TELEVISION COMMMERCIAL. Maserati marketing to the masses? What the heck?

Wow, I hadn't noticed it, but that's a damn good point. What a travesty.

Looks like Bob Moore Maserati is happening...Bob Moore Maserati (Renovation/Addition) - Construction Project in Oklahoma Oklahoma

I think this is going in the old hummer dealership, which was just recently the Subaru dealership which has now moved to the old cadillac building until the new Subaru dealership is built.

Things must be doing better the automobile economy around here.

I saw that too and had the same reaction. I believe it was for the Quattroporte (which I'm told means "4 doors" in Italian, lol)

It's the Ghilbi I believe(which is a cheaper version of the Quattroporte).... Will be neat to see a Maserati dealer here though.

The special permit request on this got shot down in flames at the Planning Commission today. The commission said go back and get PUD and we'll see ya on March 27th.
