More than one local sports writer has pointed out Gundy's chafed relationship with the media. I tend to agree with Traber's observation that something behind the scenes is going on up at OSU that's made the situation what it is. There's just no point - none - in canceling a spring game. That's a fan thing, a rite of passage every year, an off-season "party" if you will, and there's simply no PR "plus" to canceling it - but LOTS of negatives.

I don't think its an unusual or stretched conclusion to observe something goofy is going on at OSU. I personally suspect its Holder, and as it pertains to Gundy, I suspect it has to do with Ford getting a ten-year contract for doing essentially nothing (so far), while Gundy has won them a Big 12 title in Boone's favorite sport. I think nerves, personalities, emotions, and feelings are raw now. Perhaps bridges are burned. Who knows.

Anyway, I think something is going on, and I don't think Traber's observations are that out of line. Don't know if I'm ready to agree that Gundy is "gone" after this year - but would it shock me? Nope. To say the OSU athletic dept right now is dysfunctional is to be generous.
    This^

It's probably fair to say that Traber and the rest of media knows a lot more than they are telling?
I have heard rumors from Stillwater based sources about Gundy that the local media wouldn’t dare touch at this point.
The media has probably heard some of the same things.

I'm sorry hold up - Traber said something? Gundy is annoyed? I'm confused what are we talking about and where is the proof?

I don't want to pre judge but this just seems like more stuff invented from crazy Sooner land.

It's always rumors, innuendos, and "insider sources" with no proof, links, and that never seem to turn out true... same old, same old.

I do think Gundy is annoyed, but that's like saying it's wet when it rains...

    Okay, for clarity's sake:

Traber went on his show today and said that he predicted this would be Gundy's last season as coach at OSU. He said that was pure speculation/guess on his part - no insider info. He said the prediction was based on nothing more than his observation that Gundy, in the last few months, has apparently alienated several groups within OSU and in the related media circle(s). This isn't unsubstantiated; Barry Tramel in a recent online chat offered a similar sentiment re Gundy and the media a few days ago. Gundy held no LOI signing day presser, and apparently still has a bone of contention with Mike Holder going back to his recent contract negotiations. Now he cancels the spring game. I think, individually, none of these things amount to a hill of beans, but taken together, it hardly seems like what a coach getting his program "out there" and being "talked about" would normally do.

So, that's what's out there - not made up, and I think my posting history wouldn't suggest I've ever been prone to just ragging on OSU for its own sake. The Travis Ford situation, the buyout, T. Boone's (lack of?) willingness to write the buyout check, Gundy's testy flirtation with Tennessee last year, the time it took for OSU to get rid of Frank Anderson as baseball coach...just lots of things just might make the casual observer suspect things are just a little strained in the AD's office right now. If that's not the case, so be it, that's cool..ultimately, I was just adding on (and generally agreeing with) this thread someone started with the suggestion that Ford and Holder should be fired, but if nothing's wrong, and its just us Sooners making stuff up, well, alrighty then....

First of all you have to recognize that common sense in this sports forum often gets shouted over by ou48a, Laramie, and other OU fans who are legitimately obsessed w OSU. Did you hear that OSU still receives some modicum of state appropriations??? The Traber stuff just sounds like something of that ilk. I'm pretty sure every year Traber has predicted Gundy will be fired so this must be the first yea re has changed that predication. Gundy and the media have never been exactly on the same page.

The Orange Blitz does seem stupid, but his LOI presser was scheduled for the day after, which doesn't seem significant. Gundy would obviously love to get away w running his program inside a fortress which will never happen, but the problem is that each side of this debate want to be publicly accessible in different ways. It's unfortunate that the middle ground is found between Gundy/Holder/Boone/Tramel/etc in this debate in the least accessible ways (ie, posh press box, limited media access to players, extreme ticket prices) all of which placate one party but together form a strong wedge against the public.

To me, Gundy's constant drive to limit media access strikes me as a coach proactively asserting institutional control. To me that's not just relieving but also gives the appearance of Gundy settling in and looking long term. Coaches who plan to leave (Les) tend to not care as much about NCAA compliance.

You appear to be someone who shouts over and is legitimately obsessed with OU fans.

Spartan you are literally out of touch and behind the curve with many things, including what's going on in Stillwater.
I don't know what going to happen but as always on a case like this there is a lot more going on than what been reported. I'm told the poke Governor has become concerned

But as usual your comprehension is low.... Traber has never once said that Gundy should be fired.
Everything Traber said about Gundy was his feelings / opinion. If you object call him today.

Really? Then why do you OU fans keep stalking/obsessing over OSU threads?

He basically indicated that Gundy was a local media darling.

Until recently its been entirely accurate to say that osu football has not revived significant scrutiny from the local press....
Had it been, I doubt that we would have seen the SI articles written about osu.

You should be a fantasy writer. You seem to draw these wild conclusions from generic quotes.

It's been an unhealthy situation at OSU that was swept under the rug for many years. I have had more than a few private conversations with members of the local sports media about this topic going back well over a decade. Most of the local sport media have known about many bad things at osu well before they were every made public.

But what's more than clear now is that Gundy has made the local media mad, things have changed... and osu's chickens are finally coming home to roost even with the local media and it won't be pretty, specifically for those osu fans who have been living in the dark or who have been in denial about how osu football has been operated.

He quotes himself. What a joke. It is sort of really sad and pathetic. I guess we should all feel for him and his mental disorder.

Calling someone not only sad and pathetic, but also having a mental disorder, is a sign of being a troll, and quite frankly, not a very good person. Do you have a low self esteem?

You are saying someone is sad, pathetic, and that he has a mental disorder. All because you are an osu fan and he's an ou fan. Quit trolling.

It's an OSU thread. I'd say the only ones trolling are you and the other OU fans.

You're pretty much set your low own bar. Which is typical for you. Nothing new. Pathetic.

Lol. Why are you so angry that you will call people sad, pathetic, and have mental disorders? Maybe it's you that has the problem. Hmmmmmm.
