Photos from metro... $20 million project moving towards Fall 2014 opening:
Drove by there this weekend. It's crazy for me to see that they have stripped it down to the steel structure only!
Have we seen any renderings as to what it's going to look like?
They also have a huge chunk of the parking lot fenced off now. Are they expanding at all? Or is that just going to be an area for construction equipment and such?
This plus the H&M rumors, if true, should give QSM a much-needed boost. Hopefully this will spur Dillard's and Macy's to remodel their QSM locations. Their Penn Square locations are so much nicer it's hard to believe they are even the same chain.
I went to Quail this weekend to see Anchorman 2. I was impressed with overall appearance of the mall. It looks like they have made it brighter and cleaned up the food court. I like new lighting, the tile and the overall apperance of the place. We are down to two malls and I think both Penn Square and Quail Springs can make a go of it if they do it right.
Tracked down the renderings and full merchandising plan for Von Maur; posted in the article at the top of the page.

Interesting to see the big tornado shelter area in the back of the first level. Does anyone know if the other anchor stores at QSM have tornado shelters like this? Never noticed any signage before...
Cool!
A few of observations:
-The shoe stockroom is pretty good size. Hopefully they have a nice selection of shoes we don't already have here.
-There is an alterations area off the men's fitting room...awesome!
-The ladies appear to have a very nice lounge at the 2nd floor.
-I'm excited to see the piano in the plans!
I don't think there are official "shelters" per se, but the way each department store is built into the hillside provides a great deal of protection.
Quail Springs Mall has reinforced concrete slab walls behind all the food court area. We were at QSM in 1986 shopping for Mothers Day when that tornado formed over Lake Hefner and they evacuated everyone in the mall down into those corridors (at least customers). I remember that my dad kept our thoughts off of impending doom by sliding pennies across the floor and whoever was closest to the wall would win.
The tornado skipped over QSM but bounced around in SW Edmond, particularly the Fairfield edition.
I remember that tornado. Wiped out Braum's at 15th and Santa Fe.
Regarding the piano in the center court area, Nordstrom's does this as well with a gifted pianist playing beautifully most days, and it's awesome.
I really think Von Maur is closer to Nordies than Dillard's. Should be a great addition to OKC's retail scene.
It's going to be a super nice department store judging by the renderings.
Is this still on track to be complete by Fall of 2014?
It doesn't look like it.
I would be shocked if they don't move heaven and earth to be open before the holidays.
There is certainly nothing overly complicated about the construction; just a square box with a nice build-out.
Ya, you're right.
It would be a stupid business move not to be open by Black Friday.
Thanks to Plutonic Panda for these great photos of the progress:
Looks like it's coming along.
Thought about stopping and taking photos today but I was starving!
Brick is going up fast now!
It looks like they built a covered loading dock area with potentially large rollup doors? I like that so you don't have to see the loading area which was right by the both east entrance.
