Thread: Godzilla

  1. Default Godzilla

As someone not a fan of reboots but a big fan of Godzilla (minus the last one), I am glad this is getting redone. I really like the director too. He did a movie called Monsters a few years ago that showed he has some talent.

I saw the trailer earlier. I really liked the more traditional looking Godzilla they portrayed, albeit a damn short glimpse.

    Bryan Cranston!

Cast looks great and I love what i see from the trailer.

Hopefully this will make us forget all about the Mathew Broderick version -- one of the worst movies of all time.

The new Godzilla is as tall as Chase Tower.

I'm a fan of Godzilla. Hey, any movie with Perry Mason in it has to be good.

I liked Son of Godzilla, too. Include Mothra and we have a bond.

I use to listen to B.O.C. sooo loud. Love this song. Could use a bit more cowbell though.

Opens Friday and has received 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is outstanding, especially for a movie of this type.

Summer movies are off to a good start... Even though it was predictable and sophomoric, I liked Neighbors more than I thought I would.

In order not to be Politically Incorrect, within the comfort zone of artistic criticism (or something like it), is the "correct" pronunciation, "Gawd-Zilla" or "God-Zirra"? =) (sorry . . . saw or heard something on PBS/NPR that reminded me of what our allies in Japan did before I was born.) =)

Dang. I need to get me to a Comic Book Store, posthaste.
(I almost feel a "Grudge" a-comin' on. got to nip it in the bud. doncha know. =)

This is very much on our list for this weekend, and looks to be a great start to the summer. It's going to be a movie a week for us for a while.

Saw it. Pretty big disappoint I must say. It was like Godzilla itself was just a supporting actor in its own movie. Took an hour or more before things even started happening - which would have been okay if the character development with the human actors would have captured me emotionally - but sadly they didn't even come close. Won't go into any details so you can draw your own conclusions. I'd say its better than the last attempt (but that isn't saying much).

When I see these types of movies I prefer when they move along like World War Z - get to the action within the first few minutes and at least make me somewhat interested in the actors and their role/outcome.

I wasn't totally disappointed but I do agree the pacing was off, the human characters didn't capture me either, and the monster teases kept causing Cloverfield flashbacks.

I also thought it was interesting that in the 1956 version that Godzilla was portrayed as something created from nuclear experiments and that 58 years later Godzilla is the protector of our nuclear capabilities.

Maybe the director was wanting to build dramatic tension?

Maybe..... Wasn't working for me..... There were also several little side-stories that I thought could have been left out and gotten the movie in under 2 hours as well.

I'm not a movie director so I may have no idea what I'm talking about... Then again maybe I should be a movie director. ;+)

I agree with everyone else, but still enjoyed it. For as little screen time the monster(s) got I would have figured the side stories would have delivered too. Way better than the 1998 piece of junk

My wife and I saw it last night. It's really not our type of movie, but the previews looked good... We both almost fell asleep. The character development seemed weak. The dramatic build up seemed to fall flat. It just didn't do it for us.

Dissenting opinion here, we saw it this morning and I thought it was fantastic.

I have not seen it yet but a quick question to those that did. How bad do they shake the camera during the film? If it's kind of bad I will have to wait for the DVD to come out.

I didn't notice any camera shake
