Thread: Mobile Home Parks

    Default Mobile Home Parks

As some of you may know from some of my past post I moved here almost 2 years now from Indiana. I'm currently renting a mobile home. In some ways I wouldn't mind living in one but I have noticed that there are no "nicer" mobile home parks in Oklahoma. Let me explain by what I mean when I say nicer. In Indiana we had a few parks that had rules. You had to have a shed, you had to have a carport or garage, and a few other restrictions. With many more people down here in Oklahoma living in Mobile homes why isn't there anything like that in the city? An upscale mobile home park. Oh and yes before you rip into me I understand that a mobile home park will never be considered upscale but I think you kind of know what I mean.

I've seen what you are talking about in places like Wisconsin, but never here. There is a decent one over on Council and SW 74th called Westmoor that is nicer than most I've seen, but I don't think has the restrictions you are talking about. It seems like those that want to do what you are talking about usually just go and buy 5 acres and put a trailer out on it. I've seen some very nice setups done like that and I don't have anything negative to say other than I'd have a tornado shelter.

I found an acre of land just south of I-40 in El Reno and wanted to do a nice set up. However by the time I figured in cost of land $15,000, getting it hooked up to water, sewer, landscaping it was going to be about $30,000. Then buying a nice mobile home $80,000 and other little things it was going to run me about $120,000. I still wouldn't of had a garage. At that price why wouldn't I just go by a home in a subdivision. However if there was a park that I could but it in that would be a tad cheaper I would maybe be interested.

You may check out the one I mentioned. It is one of the nicer parks I've seen. There is also some in Mustang off of Czech Hall and SW29th. Parts of it are really nice, but there are some that still leave a lot to be desired.

I wondered the same thing. By the time you add it all up, you can buy a decent stick built home in an addition somewhere and over time it will appreciate in value.

Mobile homes depreciate in value and cost more to insure. That is a fact.

There are some nice mobile homes out there and I love the space you can get with them. However I agree to a point. Buy the land, build a garage, get the land ready, buy the home hell your looking at $120,000 easy. Go find a cheap $80,000 home and add on too it. Kind of where I'm at now.

I renting right now in westlake and LOVE LOVE LOVE the location. Quail Springs mall in 25 minutes. Downtown in 20 minutes. However I don't think I would want to put a $75,000 home in there.
