Default NW 172nd and Western Ave - Construction

There appears to be more than just road construction. Anyone know what's going on?

7,000 square foot retail center going in at 18005 N. Western, which would be on the west side of the street.

Near 176th they are adding a generator to a cell tower.

Those are the only building permits for the area.

Lots of water & sewer relocation going on right now around there as well as part of the road construction

I looked to me like they were working on replacing the bridge that is just south of 173rd. I believe that previously they had moved many utilities in this corridor out, I am assuming for future road expansion. Perhaps the bridge is yet another precursor. The Bridge up north of 172nd was replaced years ago with a 4 lane one, so perhaps standard operating procedure?

Wait a minute...18005 N Western is basically the Washington Irving School, there's no room there for a shopping center.

All the construction between NW 164th and NW 178th is related to the expansion of Western and the bridge just south of NW 173rd.

There's a small parcel just north of the strip center on the corner of 178 and Western, south of the school. That's the only parcel I see that is available north of 178th. Just more traffic. We're starting to actively look to flee the burbs. Tired of the traffic and it's only going to get worse.

Closer to downtown, without a doubt. Somewhere we can walk, bike and interact with neighbors more. Most, if not all, of our social activities are in the city core, so we're down there every weekend. Just makes more sense.

Cool! Wish you the best of luck. It's awesome to watch OKC develop it's core more and more, downtown is becoming an awesome place to live for sure! So many new options becoming available.
