Default FREE TREES for STORM RAVAGED AREAS in OKLAHOMA CITY

For those who didn't get the word, the City of OKC is again partnering with the Tree Bank Foundation to distribute FREE trees to Oklahoma City citizens. This Give-Away is focusing on those whose property was affected in the May 20 and 31st storms. There are still a few trees left, and no tree limits this year, unlike in past years, where it criteria was one per household. If you'd like a free tree and live in one of the areas damaged by the May storms, please visit City of Oklahoma City | Public Information & Marketing, then click on the registration link.

Registration begins Wednesday for Great OKC Tree Give Away

Oklahoma City residents who lost trees during the May 20 and 31st storms can register for new FREE trees beginning Wednesday, October 9 at 9:00 a.m. The City of Oklahoma City is partnering with the Tree Bank Foundation and OSU-OKC to host the “Great OKC Tree Give-Away.”

Eight hundred free trees are being made available to residents in storm-affected through a grant from the Houston-based Apache Foundation.

The program is open only to citizens living inside the corporate limits of Oklahoma City who were affected by the May 20 and 31st storms.

    How to Register:

Registration begins Wednesday, October 9 at 9 a.m. and will remain open as long as inventory lasts. There are two ways to register:

    1. Citizens may go online to City of Oklahoma City | Public Information & Marketing and click on the registration link.
    2. Citizens without computer or Internet access may call (405) 602-3050.

After registration, the City of Oklahoma City will verify addresses for eligibility, and will send a confirmation postcard in the mail that will be required to claim the tree at distribution.

The types of trees available include maples, oaks, junipers, hollies, redbuds, crape myrtles and sycamores. Registrants will not be able to select individual tree types in advance, and availability will be on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of distribution.

    Tree Distribution:

The trees will be distributed on Saturday, October 26 at the OSU-OKC Physical Plant, 900 North Portland Avenue. Residents picking up their trees must bring a photo ID and their registration confirmation card. Trees can be easily transported in a car or light truck.

For complete program details or questions, visit City of Oklahoma City | Public Information & Marketing, or call 297-3006.

Do they need any volunteers to help planting them??? I would gladly help out, I looked on the site and couldn't find any, but it also gave instructions on how to plant trees, so maybe it's up to you. I would to help people plant their trees though, I love plants!

Thanks, Panda. This is a residential program, so it's up to the individual homeowners to plant their own trees. However, the Tree Bank Foundation is looking for volunteers to help with their re-leaf program, and I believe re-planting is a part of their needs.

Here's some information that might help:

Tornado Re-Leaf - The Tree Bank Foundation Oklahoma

I wonder if I qualify. The wind actually broke a couple of my newer trees. The winds on May 31st at my house were crazy.

Hi Zuplar, If you sustained tree damage during the May 31 storm and live inside the corporate boundaries of Oklahoma City, you most definitely qualify!

Sounds great. I went ahead and submitted, hopefully I hear something in the next couple weeks. I was ironically about to go buy some trees in the next week or so.

Awesome man!! I haven't had a chance to look into it, but I'll likely look in around this Sunday.

Any clue what type of trees they will be this year? The ones we have gotten in the past have done very well. This is a great program.

There will be a variety of oaks, maples, junipers, hollies, crape myrtles, among others. We're not really certain how much of each variety we'll get, so I'd get there early to make sure you get your first choice.

Do you know what size the trees are going to be? I see that it says car or light truck, so I was just wondering if they were going to be real small. Not that I'm complaining, free is free.
