Thread: Chiropractors Recommendations

  1. #1

    Default Chiropractors Recommendations

After about twenty years of off/on again problems, I'm ready to try chiropractic. I'm looking for suggestions, preferably in the Edmond, Northeast/Northwest areas in that order, but I will go anywhere for the right chiropractor. And I'm hoping to find one that accepts Medicare and medicare supplement insurance.
    Thanks,
    C. T.

By the way, I found another thread but they were looking for a chiropractor in the Lake Hefner area.

My recommendation is Dr. Bruce Heng in Edmond. I've gone to him for years [at least 22] with excellent results. And I'm fairly certain he is accepting new patients and takes those with Medicare. BTW, I drive from far SW OKC to see him...as I think he's that good.

I really like Dr Lee Holmberg who is downtown. I had sciatica a few years ago and after two other chiros and pain doctor...I found him and he fixed me. He has a machine that individually pops each vertebra before he does any final manipulation. (My view as an amateur...not sure what it technically does)

Many, many years ago, I aggravated an old back injury. It was "killing" me, but I suffered along with it for a couple of weeks until I couldn't deal with it anymore. I always thought Chiropractors were quacks, but I was desperate and went to the one that my mother had gone to a few times. Three visits over a period of a couple of weeks and the severe pain was gone. I still try to be careful not to do anything to cause it to come back, but G.E. Carpenter--out there on NE 23rd St., I think between Douglas and Post or Westminster, made me realize that my theory about these guys was wrong.

At least as far as Dr. Carpenter is concerned.

This was a long time ago and I'm not sure that he is still practicing but you might want to check him out.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will check out Dr. Heng first since he is close (Edmond) and apparently takes Medicare. It also looks like Dr. Carpenter is still practicing if the Yellow Pages are correct. I wil go anywhere for the right person, but the recommendation for Dr. Heng gives me a place to start.

I stopped by Dr. Heng's office and I was impressed. He takes Medicare, he explained that with my condition (a cervical radiculopathy) if his treatments didn't relieve the pain in three weeks (visits), it wouldn't work and that would be the end of it, no endless adjustments. He also wants to see (if available) the MRI results and xrays ordered by my doctor before doing anything. He also doesn't employ twisting of the neck or popping of the back techniques which might cause me serious problems. Time will tell, but so far, I'm pleased. Of course, he hasn't touched me yet.

C.T., I hope you'll be happy with Dr. Heng. As I said, I've gone to him for over 20 years; he's treated my back, shoulder, rib, and jaw problems over that time. I have a tendency to think I'm still a "young person" who can do anything--even though my body tells me differently. I only go once or twice--until the problem is resolved. He uses a "gentle glide" technique to putting things back into alignment. I like that he doesn't think I should be there week after week.

    Good luck!

    Old Okie,
I'm happy with Dr. Heng, but I'm afraid it isn't working for me. It wasn't an easy problem and he knew it wouldn't take long to find out if it worked or not, so I suspect we are almost done. It was worth a try and if I have any other problem, I will certainly go back to him.

Hands Down, go to Dr. French at LiveWell Family Chiropractic, great service, very knowledgeable, and they always get you in and out within 10 minutes or less, no matter how busy they are. He's on Memorial Rd. just east off Hefner Parkway, in the shopping center just east of Chili's and next door to McAlister's Deli. Livewell Chiropractic

I've been to 5 chiropractors over the last 3-4 years; all chiropractors are not created the same. Needless to say, I stuck with Dr. French about 3.5 out of those 4 years. Classy, knowledgeable in various techniques (heck even some Thunder players and other high profile people go see him). If you don't have good insurance, they will work with you on an affordable payment that works for your budget.
