Thread: OKC Talk Crashing IE

  1. Default OKC Talk Crashing IE

Has anyone else had issues with the site locking up IE? In the last week or so, only when i come here, does IE freeze. Sometimes it's when i'm on the main page, but sometimes it does it when i'm on a thread. So far, i haven't had the same issue with Chrome. But i'm wondering if some code changed recently, or a new ad in in place that has bad code in it.

I don't know, as I am mostly using Chrome these days. Like you, haven't had any issues using Chrome. I don't even recall the last time I opened IE other than it's been a long long time.

Strike that, just did it to Chrome as well.

Nope -- haven't heard any other complaints either.

Yep, started noticing it two days ago. It's happening in Chrome for me.

Seems to be okay with FF.

I've been having it pop up a message about a script using Firefox recently. Appears to be something with the banner ad.

If you can do any screen captures of the problem you're having, please send them along.

Same with me on Chrome - I think it depends on what Advertising is trying to load.....

I'll get out and come back in and it'll be on a different ad and will work.

If you guys would stop Googling Asian dating sites you wouldn't keep getting those bad ads.

Imagine my surprise to find this thread! =)
I was going to start a new one on the topic with something like this:

I hope that there are some people in here who are a lot more computer knowledgeable (a.k.a. "savvy") than I am who might give me a clue regarding an annoying situation that has recently arisen. My service provider is Cox Communications (you know, the one that charges noobs $99 for the same service for which I--a loyal 12+ year customer--is paying $180.)

I have a very new laptop (been using it for less than a year). It came with Windows 7 and I hardly have any programs loaded on it. I use it almost exclusively for the Internet.

Starting just a few days ago, while looking at OKC Talk--and apparently only OKC Talk--the machine with essentially freeze and an error message along the lines of "this program has lost contact with the internet." will appear at the bottom of the screen. When I click "More detais" this is what appears:

    Description:
A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: AppHangB1
    Application Name: iexplore.exe
    Application Version: 9.0.8112.16483
    Application Timestamp: 515df825
    Hang Signature: 38e8
    Hang Type: 131072
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
    Locale ID: 1033
    Additional Hang Signature 1: 38e80d8d16234ed7eae9820ab8e6e762
    Additional Hang Signature 2: 7151
    Additional Hang Signature 3: 7151f5d20c8f5c16345fddb9521fd764
    Additional Hang Signature 4: 38e8
    Additional Hang Signature 5: 38e80d8d16234ed7eae9820ab8e6e762
    Additional Hang Signature 6: 7151
    Additional Hang Signature 7: 7151f5d20c8f5c16345fddb9521fd764
I've noticed that when I select "regular" Internet Explorer rather than Internet Explorer (64 bit) the problem almost never occurs.

Exitiing the browser then restarting it usually solves the problem . . . temporarily. I did a little Googling on the subject but nothing I found re: App Hang seems to be of any help in this case.

My grandson asked if it was a Forum and when I said yes he said that it might have something to do with all of the traffic on the site. I don't think that this has anything to do with it. I think that it may be somehow related to the ad banner (not the OKC Talk banner) at the top of the page.

It's definitely not due to traffic...

    Thanks for the additional info.

I've submitted a trouble ticket to our hosting company and hopefully will have this resolved soon.

It does it to me on Firefox also. I wrote down what it says: ds.serving - ssys.com Bursting Cached Scripts. It says that you can either stop the script or whatever, or wait to see if it catches up? I stop it and all is well until next visit.

It just froze on the banner ad for Orangewood Inn and Suites in Austin Texas.
Probably it's a front for some sort of Oriental Massage Parlor. =)

Mine switched from Asian to Russian... Just shortly before the script error started popping up.

Yep... That's what I get too.

Chrome, Firefox, Opera, IE. I have issues with all of those.

Right after "The Orangewood Suites" freeze, it did it for some semi-sleazy hotel in Las Vegas . . .
Actually, the hotel, itself, may be okay . . . it's probably just the sleazy people who are tempted by the ad to stay there. =)

This doesn't seem to be affecting the desktop computer--running on Windows 2000 Professional (with the same Avast "Safety" software as the laptop)--but it's always so slow that it's hard to tell if there is an actual problem or not.

I use apple devices and I've yet to experience any of these issues. Must be a windows thing.

I would be the last person on earth to believe that correlation has anything to do with causation . . . Yet isn't it "funny" how this all started at the same time as an uptick in posts on this site that are sort of critical of a certain local politician who is running for mayor . . .?

Sorry: Left the smiley face off the end of that last post and there is no edit function in this sector of the site.
