I agree. It is extremely sad for everyone involved. I saw the interviews with the parents earlier on the news and that has to be excruciating for all of them.
This is completely awful and heartbreaking.
That video doesn't look like actually ABC news footage and I'm surprised this hasn't been in News 9 or Newsok.com. Needless to say, I'm very skeptical of this story.
It was on the 10 pm news, along with pictures of the 3 kids and a talk with one of their mothers. She said they're in a "pretend" gang, not a real one. Too bad that doesn't bring the victim back.
Do you not watch the news, it's been on local tv , the past 2 days......
KWTV if I'm not mistaken. We were watching Under the Dome and the lead in's were right after the show.

I could go on... still skeptical?
Strap them to a wall and let rottweilers go wild on the nuts until there is nothing left . In fact if you would do that for all major crimes, it would be a great deterrent.
And were the police flawless and prosecutors all above board, and all judges unbiased. all defense counsel competent, and eye witnesses beyond error and malice, you might be on to something.
However, we do not live in Imaginationland. Thus nad chomping dawgs, half starved feral cats, pits of angry snakes, stonings and videos of brutal beheadings will all be more appropriately remains means employed in less enlightened nations.
on edit: I'm addressing the "all major crimes' notion, not this or any other single incident.
The kid said they killed two people, who was the second victim? I thought the baseball player was the only one? sorry if its a stupid question I haven't read every news article on it but what I did read it only named one victim
Very sad... My thoughts and prayers go out to the family's.
This is disgusting. Somehow this won't be a "hate crime" because a white guy was the victim.
Because throwing them in prison where they have TV, 3 meals a day and get to hang out in the yard is such a brutal punishment. If we would get serious with punishments here, maybe just maybe crime would downturn. Plus it is not like we are sentencing them to death. Just removing the chance for them to futher dilute the population pool.
I was of the same mindset years ago - until I took some criminal justice classes, interviewed some individuals who had either spent considerable months in Oklahoma County Jail or in prison. I also correspond with a couple of people in prison now. Not to mention I've participated in countless interviews/depositions at several prisons/transfer centers/federal holding facilities/pre-release centers throughout the state.
The 'country club', lap of luxury hang out with your peeps and watch TV and lift weights prison lifestyle is 99.9% a fallacy. Do prisoners 'adapt'? Mostly. But confinement is not to be taken lightly.
If by 'serious with punishments' you mean torture or severe isolation/deprivation for those we know we will eventually return to society, then you are sadly fooling yourself.
Also, how many studies do we need to prove that harsh prison sentences and the death penalty are punishments only - not preventative.
I'm all for shorter sentences for most non-violent crimes if the sentence entails labor balanced with rehabilitation.
As for these 'pretend gang members' - If the charges prove true then very long prison sentences are in order or possibly even the death penalty. However, both possible punishments were in place long before these kids turned into killers and apparently that fact had zero impact on their decision making ability.
I have an idea that I will withhold, but I do generally agree with you. This is an interesting case as they are minors and their brain isn't fully developed yet, assuming it ever will develop. In the end, people that commit these kinds of acts should be put down. I don't agree with physically torturing someone unless it is to get info that could save lives.
In all, I think our prison system is a joke and it needs to be focused more on rehabilitating people to get them back in society. No one, should spend life in prison. If they are a threat to society and burden to the state, they should be put down. A lot of things are illegal that shouldn't be and that is just my opinion, but would keep a lot of people from getting in trouble with that law.
A sentence is not going to change whether or not you kill someone. Anytime you kill someone, you know that there is a good chance, if you are caught, your life is over...whether literally or figuratively.
People kill (in situations like these) because they're not stable and of sound mind. They were also not taught a good value system.
It's quite apparent that these kids value system went:
1. ....
2. Have fun
3. ...
4. Life
5. ...
They literally placed a higher value on fun than they did life. Not sure where they received/learned their prioritization of values, but it certainly is to be blamed.
