Has anyone seen actual renderings for this project, not just blueprints?

Interesting. I'm at Avis. Showed the manager just now. She already knew the details.
I posted them quite a while back. Nothing has changed.
PGAL: Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) Consolidated Rental Car Facility (ConRAC)
If the rental counters stay in the terminal, I would hate this less.
One of things I despise about these off-site facilities is that the shuttle buses dump a group into the counter lines all at once, causing this silly scramble off the bus in an attempt to beat everyone else.
With the counters at baggage claim, people are fed into the lines intermittently which makes things more civilized.
Still dreading standing out in crappy weather waiting for a bus, dragging my luggage on and off the thing, and climbing into a car that has been sitting in the blazing sun or freezing cold. And shouldering outrageous taxes for this "improvement".
So it's not going to be a structured parking garage, that is confirmed? Just a massive parking lot?
Correct.
That sucks. I wish OKC would do what Orlando had when I was there a year ago. Nice rental car facility in an garage attached to the airport.
Austin is constructing a parking garage consolidated facility. They have a lot more traffic than we do though. I wish the ready return area was at least covered (not necessarily structured parking).
It was 93 degrees in Cleveland when I picked up my car. Now there, they consider that hot, especially with their humidity. The agent started the car, we did the walk around, I signed, got in the car. Temp was cool and fine. No problem. So, maybe the agent can start the vehicle, turn on air or heat and your car is ready to go. Damn. What a novel idea. Maybe the folk here in OKC might think of that sequence. I don't know, that's way "out there" on the creative thinking scale.
The airport has been talking this line for awhile. like a separate freight facility. I don't think this market is needs that much off site. Plenty of room on airport property. Leroy Hansen was delusional.
Flying in today and very much looking forward to going to the counter, getting the keys, collecting my baggage, strolling over to my car in the covered structure and very quickly being on my way.
I can't believe this new facility is going to not be covered parking. I would think with the amount of hail we get here, the rental companies would have thrown a hissy fit.
Project bids 9/4
Welcome back home Pete.
They throw a hissy fit about everything, so much so you never know what they really want. We have a RAC meeting at the Louisville project every month and they can't agree with themselves month to month. They are one of the more difficult clients to work with because they waffle so much until it is a critical path item then they complain about what was done wanting something we proposed four months prior that they changed. We do a lot of RAC facilities and that is their typical M.O., it is worse than trying to herd cats.
As far as covered access, I know that is a big thing for them with the higher end club members, it may be a future item that the RAC's are willing to pay for. I know they want it in Louisville but the airport wanted to move it until after this project while they assess when the RAC garage project will start.
I guess everyone forgot that until only about 2 years ago, we had off-airport rentals with shuttles and uncovered parking. So we only recently even had this benefit for our visitors. NONE of them had covered parking at the facilities on Meridian....they're all still here, the buildings are just owned by someone else now (except Enterprise). So "hissy fit" doesn't really count. None of the complaining really does since it's just going back to how it was.....just making the centralized rental facility closer to the airport since they dont have to go north of airport rd.
If the rentals want covered, they can put in covered areas. Otherwise, our visitors can "rough it" like they do at every other airport in the world. If you're complaint is the car being hot or cold when you get in, you've got too much free time to complain.
I breezed through yesterday in typical fashion and after leaving crazy-busy LAX, I arrived here where the airport seemed quite slow and left me wondering why we even need this massive expense and change.
The rental cars have been in the near parking garage for as long as I can remember. I moved away in 1989, have been back at least twice a year since, and have never taken a shuttle bus.
Anyway, I know this is going forward and in the meantime I'll enjoy the ease on convenience of the current system which has always been awesomely easy and pleasant.
It's official and should open in about a year and an half.
