odd... i never get those kind of ads. mine are usually for cars and power tools and such. right now, i'm looking at one for an online comic book store. lo and behold, i bought some comics from amazon to frame like art just a few days ago. i'm pretty sure google ads bases them off your browsing and search history. -M

Yeah, the ads are targeted based on user search and browsing history.

    Haha...

Every once in a while I get these complains about the ads then try to explain very nicely that *somebody* (certainly not you!) has been browsing similar subjects, which is why you get those particular adverts.

I'm seeing an ad for an injury lawyer, having just read the tort reform discussion in the "Know your city" thread.

And I'm seeing an ad for a free obituary search. LOL

But after thinking about it, a couple of months ago I located the graves of my great grandparents who came to Oklahoma in the land run with an obituary search.

It's getting removed. We'll see how this turns out.

I get those complaints on JohnTV and I have to remind them I only see ads for lawn mowers because I've been researching them lately.

On this page I'm see ads for a Disney Cruise. It must be my 3' tall mouse fetish.

Better contact news about okctalk. They are trying to entice me to breed with infertile women who would be swept away from their husbands by my youth and vigor.

We all know that adults, especially women can not make decisions for themselves and are way to easily swept off their feet. We must protect these adults from themselves.
Just made my night that you outted yourself and your search habits. CLASSIC

This is the last bit of the billboard coming down. They waited till dark to remove it.

Personally, I'll be shocked if another billboard owner doesn't step up to put the ad on one of their spaces.

I can swear on a Bible that I have never once looked for.cougars. if I open this thread up it goes to that. If I open up the response window it goes to Heineken ad - a chance to.stop into a world.of adventure . I'm on my phone if that matters.

Or maybe you guys fall outside of.the coveted 18-32 demographics for.advertisers. just hemriod cream and denture ads until you meet your maker.

On my iPad, the banner ad matches the thread topic (mostly). When I click on the bronze statue thread I get something about precious metals, on the Lincoln Park thread I get one for Branson golf adventures. This thread = (today) something called "Sugar Daddy for Me".

I'm glad they came down. Community standards should dictate. Las Vegas, fine. OKC, not so much.

It actually depends on a few variables and how many available ad units there are that fit your 'profile.' There are times my website shows no ads at all. When no ad fits a profile it appears they display a default ad - though this happens less and less as basically every Internet surfer is profiled and matched to specific ads. At least this is how my account rep with YouTube explained it to me.

Right now on this thread I see an ad for something called VOCUS Marketing Cloud. I can see how that loosely fits my recent online surfing profile.

Firefox is set to not display ads.
Using Chrome, I see an ad for Culligan, the hard water experts.

I refuse to speculate if the Culligan pitchman is a sugar daddy.

On this thread I've seen a couple of ads for young Eastern European women yearning to breathe free . . .
Right now there is one for "Cheap PPC" whatever that is. Probably some sort of cheap Viagra substitute.

Unless you were Googling - "Inflatable, companionship, good time"

I've been getting ads for Asian Singles..... I find this odd because my surfing habits are pretty much contained to 4 sites... OKCTalk, Urbanspoon, The Smoke Ring, and Facebook.

How did they profile those 4 sites to figure out that a 44 year old married white male is looking for a single Asian woman?

I mean come on.... If I was searching for Asian women why would I settle for just a single one? I might as well go for the double or triple play don't ya think?

Only when you do it right...[wink, wink, nudge, nudge].

Between consenting adults who aren't me or my wife, it isn't my business to judge what other people do. I use the term consent in both a strict moral and legal sense here which has gray areas. Age is one of those gray areas but not when people are past the age the law defines as adult. As long as we can place 18 year olds in the military and train them to kill, I'm pretty sure they can decide for themselves what partners they choose to mate with.

Being older and richer doesn't make one less able to make good decisions and older people are just as likely to be exploited one way or another by younger and prettier individuals. Power differentials exist on many levels and age does not define the ability or willingness of an individual to be manipulative or exploitive.

So what is "perverted" here? It is really basic biology mixed with modern technology. Big whoop.

FYI: I have a teenaged daughter and I wouldn't approve of her seeking this sort of thing. At the same time, I'm not particularly concerned for her. She has her own mind, own priorities, and makes her own choices. Being "kept" by an older man isn't likely to be among those choices and my opinion about it isn't the reason. Her sense of self isn't likely to allow her to settle for being anybody's pet. If she does, I won't blame these billboards.

Well, you did note the ad was for Asian Singles, not an Asian Single.

    Just sayin'

    on edit:
Rut Rho. I posted the above and the new ad that popped up is for a site called rushmypassport
