Thread: Before and after Bricktown/Downtown

    Default Before and after Bricktown/Downtown

So I was driving down Reno the other day and thinking about how south of Reno used to be just fields of dirt. I know Lower Bricktown didn't turn out to be what we'd hoped for but I was struck by how much the whole area had changed.

I don't happen to have any pics at my disposal but I thought it might be cool if we had a thread where people who do have pics and/or take pics could post before and after photos. Such as a before photo of the streetscape where the canal is now and an after of the canal. Or a before of lower Bricktown when there was nothing there and a pic of it now. Before photos of Deep Deuce and pics now. Photos of the parking lot where Devon now stands and after shots. This could be an ongoing project as our downtown is ever changing now days.

Anyone have any such pictures? Yes, no, maybe?

There are a ton of aerial photos and ground photos of this area when it was a railroad yard/terminus/station for the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific RR

I'm sure Steve will also have a blog post up soon for the area. Hasn't he been doing a series of these all week on his blog?

I'm sure there are. I was more interested in at ground level photos from the 80s and 90s as compared to how it looks today. I know that we've got professional and hobby photogs on here. I just thought this might be a fun idea.

This is the parking lot next to the Rock Island Plow Building before they burned down. The RIP is in the far right.

Here's an old video I did. Put quite a bit of work into it actually. Some comparison to old photos.

The middle building is Crab Town. The one of the far left next to it is gone.

Please. No more of Downtown/Bricktown in their heyday. It honestly breaks my heart. Let's just compare 1990s Downtown with today so I can feel much better. :]

If you have Google Earth on your computer, you can use the timeline feature and look at Downtown from circa '95 or so and then compare it with today. TONS of infill since 2000. Very noticeable and positive difference.

Seeing the infill Oklahoma City used to have makes me feel pretty empty & sad. :/

The core of OKC used to be very dense. I've seen an old photo of dt OKC that was amazing,if you did not know what city you were looking at, you might think it's a coastal city!

If you notice in the pictures that are posted, there was really little of any significance in the Lower Bricktown area before it was redeveloped.

And once redeveloped, the insignificance became taller or asphaltier

(Land Run Memorial is nice though)

I found this video from the grand opening of the canal back in 1999.
