Site prep has begun.
It's more than just begun, I saw some of the foundation poured last week.
Took photos and video today as well... working on it now.
Wow, I really think this will have a fairly decent impact on the area. Great infill here and looks like this intersection will be changed big time!
Looking at your photos & knowing the potential of C2S, I get the feeling that development is about to start going south & west.
Will's doing it again. I'm being inundated with a torrent of pixels!!!
But it's good thing.
Man, love those aerial views.
It's nice to see the ring of trees around the block, but I hope they grow to a much larger size.
Anyone know what kind of trees those are and how big they'll get?
So much smaller than the ones that will be removed on the Stage Center site when construction starts, which is the only positive on that block that I'll miss.
I'm sure this is one of the last insignificant details, but ... have they come up with a mascot for this school, yet? I'm thinking something extinct with lots of teeth and tiny arms.
Not to start a 5-page off topic torrent in this thread, but it will be interesting to see while they're doing ground work if we see OCPS try and build a storm shelter with this school.
lots of buildings with basements and the underground that are a block away, especially with the tower/development going in on the stage center site. I don't know that it's really necessary.
Oh sorry! Well I hope they've considered it..
Oklahoma City School Board votes to expand attendance boundaries for new charter school
The Oklahoma City School Board voted Monday night to expand the attendance boundaries for the new downtown charter school, John W. Rex Elementary Charter School.
John W. Rex Elementary Charter School's previous boundaries were between Western and Lottie avenues and between NW 10 and the Oklahoma River. Now the attendance boundary is bumped up to NW 13 in some areas.
Children who live within the attendance boundaries of the charter school have the first opportunity to claim seats in the school, which is set to open next school year, said Phil Horning, who is a member of the Oklahoma City School Board and the charter school's board.
With the expansion, the attendance boundaries now include the MidTown business district and the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
Also Monday night, the board approved a budget for fiscal year 2014. The district expects to have $450 million in income, $528 million in expenditures and use $122 million in carry-over funds.
The largest expense is instruction, which is budgeted for $189 million.

Unfortunately, with all the flooding, downtown basements and the underground may not be the wisest places to take shelter. The OKC and Joplin tornadoes have shown that above ground shelters stand up to EF5 tornadoes and have many advantages over going below ground. The reality is that we could probably just build our schools with better materials and methods and greatly mitigate the risk to the students. Even the Insulating Concrete Forms used to build the Maywood brownstones can withstand debris impacts of 250 mph and they're wickedly efficient. The energy savings over time could offset any additional cost of building a few classrooms or the hallways out of that stuff.
