Well you can sit at home drinking the bourbon. I cannot wait to jump off the side of that thing, and slide down that thing, and zip down the line off that thing.

No issues with slides or zip lines or rappelling or lots of other fun things one can do. The notion of free falling a large side of beef onto a large whirling set of blades, screen or no screen, simply holds no appeal. In younger days it would have, and likely would qualify as far more fun than a few leaps and goofs that were undertaken in the spirit of oh, why not (which sometimes did turn into CRASH .... Ohhhhhh, that's why.)

DANG IT!!! I would LOVE to take my son to these!! We have races to go to every 2 or 3 weeks and EVERY race in June AND July are on these same exact dates. DAMN IT!! Hopefully it's successful so they'll have more showings in August.

Today as I was driving over the river on Byers/Lincoln, I noticed that the concrete leading up to the new bridge over the riverboat inlet has been poured and dried. I'd love to go riding along the north shore this next weekend and was wondering if anyone knows if the bridge is open for business. It is located just west of Chesapeake Boathouse.

I run on the north river trail a few times during the week, as recently as Sunday and it was still closed. Even though they may have poured the concrete I'd imagine they would let it dry for at least the next week. (but as slowly as they have been moving with this I'd imagine even longer)

Hmmm. The orange construction nets were not blocking either side. I'll still pack my bicycle for a weekend ride and use south shore if its not useable.

Well they have had those nets up for a while that have actually been torn down and just laying on the ground. If they are totally removed then I guess it would be open now. Honestly when I get to that point I'm halfway through my 6 mile run and really tired haha and they had been up so long that I may have not even noticed they were gone.

True that! I'm just excited about the possibility of it being of use next weekend. Time will tell...

Saw the bridge today, and it is still blocked off, now with equipment. I guess they got tired of the snow fencing being ripped down. Part of the problem looks to be that they have yet to back fill around the poured concrete, so have a foot or so dropoff on either side of the path. Dangerous. They might not open it until the rest of the job site opens, and that is still quite a ways off as far as I can tell. I've been working on something with the Riversport folks. I will try to ask tomorrow about the timeline for opening that bridge.

Thanks Urbanized. I have a feeling they may just hold off until the whole thing is done. Is it okay to ask for no more rain? As that should help...

The bridge is open from the west, but is still disconnected from the chk boathouse. In fact the Orange snow fencing on the west side was still there but torn down, but the cement was poured and dry and I crossed over it with no problem just cant get to the boathouse district.

But you can park in the Chesapeake Boathouse parking lot and ride your bike around to the bridge to access the north shore trails, right?

nope, they have the trail blocked off from the boathouse to the bridge. And of course the trail that goes under I40 towards the canal is still under construction. So still no access from the boathouse to the north trail going west.

    South trail it is then!

I usually park at Wheeler park and run from there, a sketchier crowd hangs out there however (I saw a man walking around COMPLETELY NAKED a few weeks back). IT shouldn't be long before the bridge access is open to the boathouse, it looked like they were just waiting for the cement to dry on the trail leading up to the bridge (not on the actual bridge).

Now that's funny, lol. I almost parked there once, but like you said, the sketchier crowd made me think better of it, so I went a little east to the Robinson Landing. There were more people parked there--regular folks.

So who would care to guess how long it will be before we see something actually being built for the OU and UCO boathouses?

I don't think OU is building a boathouse down there anymore since they are building something in Norman. I would guess an announcement for the UCO boathouse by the end of the year and construction to start by next summer.

OU is still building their boathouse. Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread but they are only building an gym type facility at OU so that athletes don't have to drive all the way up to the river everytime they want to workout/train. It's kind of tough to have a boat house without anywhere to row.

My understanding is that it would be a training facility in Norman with a self propulsion tank like at the Devon boathouse. I guess if they are doing both, that is great for both areas.

No one at OU has said the boathouse was not going to be built so unless something has changed, I think the boathouse is still in the plans. Everything out of OU has said that the the on campus facility is being built as a place to train when not on the water. They are currently training on campus at Lloyd noble. If they are only building the on campus facility than they are taking a major budget cut. The on campus facility is being built at about half the cost of the boathouse.
