Hmm... Announcement on my birthday. After purchasing a launch-day 360 and getting red-ring, and then purchasing another first generation 360 and getting the red ring of death again, I turned my back on Microsoft as far as gaming goes. Bought a PS3 shortly thereafter and that baby is still going. So excited for the Playstation 4 to come out and I'm still very curious as to the next Xbox despite the horrible experience I had with their hardware.

Okay, I'm confused on something. The Xbox One requires an internet connection once every 24 hours or else you won't be able to play games. What I'm wondering is, can you reconnect if you go longer than 24 hours without connecting to the internet? For example, I go on a vacation to a place where there's no internet & I can't take my Xbox with me which would prevent me from connecting to the internet once every 24 hours. Will I be able to reconnect when I get back so I can play games or will I never be able to play a game on the Xbox One again?

I'd assume it would reconnect, no problem. It just wouldn't play the games until it reauthorized again.

The XBOX division at MS runs almost like a different company, and while they may make the occasional misstep, they actually have a decent track record, and a willingness to change/evolve fairly rapidly.

It's not online 24/7, you just have to connect to the internet once every 24 hours.

Now that Sony has announced that PS4 will allow used and borrowed games (basically, no DRM) I'll be curious to see if MS will change course.

That being said.. getting $5 on a $60 game to trade in, or saving $5 on a used game, is not a dealbreaker for me.

Oh, and for folks upset on the whole "used games" thing with xbox... tell you what. Bring me $40-50 cash, and I'll give you $5, any day of the week. That's what you're doing with used games right now.

Sony's E3 press conference cracked me up when they were mocking the Xbox One. I may go ahead & get both. I was just gonna get the PS4, but Microsooft showed some intriguing games that fit my interests.

I think that's incredibly stupid and pointless, however it is not a major deal breaker for me. I've already pre-ordered the new Xbox and will be getting the PS4 as well for a few games coming to it exclusively. As for the used games deal, I think that is good what Microsoft is doing, tbh.

Also, the only reason I could see to make it online only is to combat video game piracy.

Yeah, XBOX lost me as a customer.... no fan of connect once a day requirements. Believe it or not, there are plenty of people who do not have or want the Internet. I've got it, probably always will, but I don't want it to be a requirement when buying a $500 gaming console and $40-$70 games when one has nothing to do with the other.

I rarely get a game on release, so the no-used-games thing is a pretty big deal breaker for me. While I don't often trade in games myself (I'm a bit of a hoarder that way) The idea that you can't sell a disk that you bought is rather ridiculous to me, and I'd buy a game for $40 over $60 any day of the week. Since the PS4 is also region free and cheaper, I'm leaning towards that one, although I won't be getting either soon since I'm not anything close to a hardcore gamer anymore.

The internet thing isn't a massive dealbreaker, I could always set it up if I needed to, but I don't really play online much so I don't see the point in requiring it.

I'll stick to smartphone games. I am not much of a game player at all, but on those rare occasions when I want to play something, I want to hole up and not talk to people. I don't want online games, I don't want to connect to the internet, I don't want to have people try and verify games or install updates. I just want to play my game and be left alone.

I do realize that I'm not the target market for these kinds of things anymore, but I don't see any way in hell I'd pay that amount of money for a game that requires an internet connection. I don't have an XBox Live account, and don't want one. This has basically guaranteed that if I buy a new game console, it will be the Playstation. But with smartphones, and iPads, and computers being everywhere, I don't think I really need another expensive electronic thing.

From what I've seen, it does come with the kinect. I actually like that because software developers are more likely to integrate kinect support into games and apps if they know that 100% of the user base has one. They did say you can turn off the kinect though, to avoid the privacy concerns.

While I enjoy the novelty of the concept of walking into the room and saying "xbox on" and everything turning on, at the end of the day it's still just that; a novelty. And one that IMO doesn't outway the concern of an open, listening, mic running in my living room 24 hours a day.

Definitely jumping ship (Xbox) and getting the PS4. There isn't one exclusive title going to the XBone, and I typically rent from GameFly, which Microsoft won't support. Easy decision.

Probably. There are a number of exclusive games going to the Xbox, which is why I've reconsidered getting the XBone. I'm really into the Roman era, so Ryse: Son of Rome really caught my eye, which is an Xbox exclusive.
