It is the Boston Marathon...people from ALL over the world come to run it.
it is going to take some time to sort out the facts.

Yep. I am thinking that this wasn't all that professional of a hit. Those bombs could have gone off earlier and killed a lot more. Although the terror of this event is what the bad guys want too.

Latest details are a BOLO for a black or dark skinned male dressed in a black hoodie with a black backpack who tried to get into a secured area earlier today.

We all wonder and will surely know, soon. I dunno - tax day? Patriot Day? Boston? I'd rather it be foreign but have to wonder. A bit like missing the 911 connection at Benghasi.

It could be the week. April 19 (x2), April 20 (Columbine), April 17 (Virginia Tech).

That would be my guess as well. If the bomber was injured I wouldn't be surprised if the two bombs were supposed to go off at the same time and when the second one didn't blow he went back to either get it or see why it didn't and then it went off. If he did try to get in earlier and was turned away I wonder if he came back after secuirty was reduced. I'm sure they can't secure the area until the very last runner finishes. In addition, if it was a lone wolf I doubt the date had any significance other than it was the day of the Boston Marathon.

It doesn't seem odd to me, I have seen them at Broncos and Rockies games here. Just a fact of life in the world that we live in now.

I have been watching a live news feed from ABC affiliate in Boston, Heather Unruh is one of the anchors. They have a twitter feed running underneath with updates.

WTF is WRONG with "people" . . . this anonymous, random, slaughter is simply beyond comprehension.

(and i don't care if it is any islamist fringe group . . . the zionist liberation front . . . the ira . . . the skinhead survivalist brigades . . . etc. ad infinitum. when the perpetrators of this outrage are apprehended, a public hanging is too kind in terms of punishment. i know, i know, "judge not lest ye be judged, for by the same standard you, too, shall be judged . . ." i think a slow death involving boiling oil or napalm would not be inappropriate here . . . or perhaps an old fashioned steamroller and some come-alongs that relatives of the victims and some of the victims themselves could click up a notch, regardless of race, creed or color. sorry. i'm just so tired of repeats of this type of random violence in the public square.)

At the same time, I must admit that if Congress called for stricter controls on the right to bear bombs I'd be one-hundred percent in favor of them (the controls).

That's exactly right. There was wild speculation about Middle Eastern suspects immediately after the Oklahoma City bombing. It's much too early to speculate about Boston. Anything is possible at the moment.

Is the keyword here "cowards"? (i agree: cowardly act)
Remember the old saying: "A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave [person] only one" . . . ?
Perhaps Mr. Obama needs to consider that idea in conjunction with his comment about "the full weight of 'justice'" coming down on the perp(s). I hope he does.

First opportunity to chime in all day on this site. First off, gotta say my heart is with the people in Boston who were affected by this. Second, I don't think this is foreign. Had it been, we're looking at worse explosions and maybe them even being dirty bombs. I think this will be a case of domestic terrorism.

It's purely speculation at this point but I would have to agree. This whole thing, while terrifying and horrific, seems very amateurish. The incident I immediately thought of was the young man who tried to set off a bomb inside Oklahoma Memorial Stadium several years ago, was turned away by security, and then subsequently (accidentally) blew himself up outside of the stadium. Only time will tell at this point.

Another disheartening image(s) from the Boston explosions is the number of people who immediately began looting just minutes after the carnage began.

I didn't see any reports of looting going on, that's sad.

Yeah, there are some pretty disgusting videos and images of people (and not looking like what most people would assume looters to look like) looting merchandise stands and a food cart in the area. Pretty pathetic.

I'm sure the media will ignore it because it doesn't fit their current script of how they want to mold reality.

On another note, this was yet another time that I broke out the Iphone police scanner app and listened live to first responders - amazing stuff. Very emotional.

I'm sure they are and it will continue for a while, and not just in Boston.

The fact that we - reportedly - haven't yet received any acknowledgments by established groups tends to support that theory. We'll see. If there is any justice, the person who did it was one of the dead but they don't seem to be going with that story and I'd think they would if it had any legs. Oh god, I can't believe I just wrote that.

I wonder if those investigating this outrageous abomination are considering the angle that this might not have any political connection at all. Perhaps this is the insane act of someone who has something against The Boston Marathon because he--and I'm sure that it is a he--feels as if he was somehow slighted or "done wrong" by some authority involved with the event and decided to ruin it for everyone . . . I wonder if they are looking into people who may have been arrested at or banned from some earlier running of this thing. The bombs, while--as one expert said--effective, seem to be a bit . . . crude and unsophisticated. Just a thought . . . Whatever the case, the punishment I mentioned, above, should still apply.

I suspect that they are considering every possibility.
