Shreveport o/n suggestions: Clean, easy access, inexpensive

Will be breaking the drive to Mobile next month into two chunks for a change. Going south, a fair distance after a somewhat busy day means a Shreveport (give or take 30 miles) sleepover. No gaming interest, no touristy interest, simply wanting a clean decent facility on the lower end of the cost spectrum (no need to buy fancy when one simply wants a sleep and a wakeup and back at it again.) If it were just me, I'd just crash a few hours at a rest stop or truck stop. As I have companions this trip, that's simply not practical.

Thurs night stopover. If you go through there much, any suggestions are appreciated.

I made that trip last year, stopped at the Hampton Inn and Suites Bossier City, 2691 Airline Dr. If you can use the govt rate you can get a room for $77. Its close to several restaurants, a gas station etc., right by I20. Free breakfast, clean and comfortable. I don't know if that's what you are looking for pricewise...

I only go through Shreveport during the day but I wouldn't rule out a casino hotel just because you don't want to gamble. You should be able to get a good rate on a Thursday night, they will have a quality affordable restaurant on-site and you can get a good breakfast. Plus, tons of security if your car is loaded with stuff. And who knows, you might want to drop a dollar or two after all. Don't forget to stop by Duck Dynasty on your way through Monroe (it is just a few blocks off the interstate and you'll need a potty break after breakfast anyway).

Know it looks like you won't need dinner but if you do I recommend the Blind Tiger restaurant walking distance from the casinos

Stayed in several budget hotels back when we used to gamble down there frequently but the Holiday Inn Express wasn't bad for the price

JTF, not opposed to gaming, but it's a bit of a compressed time trip. Time spent gaming is either going to mean less sleep or sleeping in longer, which takes away time from visiting my son and his lovely. This trip is to support elder son graduating from U-South & celebrate his recent promotion to GM with his employer.) If we had some more time to be away, I wouldn't mind adding a full day for some play time in N.O. But our May schedule just doesn't permit it.

ABryant, I've had some interesting conversations with officers on rural Texas highways in days past, though fortunately no citations.

amanda, thanks for the rec. No longer qualify for a govt. rate, but we'll have my lovely's pop with us, so that might open a rate window of its own.

Easy, I seriously considered some of the budget places, but have ruled out all examined thus far, due to negative reviews and appearances when using Google street view. Some of the places reviewed make certain budget no-tels on S Shields etc. seem downright 4 star by comparison. 8^)

I have made that trip many times and stayed several different places along the way, casinos and hotels from Texas to Mississippi. None if it was particularly memorable other than the Christmas night I won a few hundred bucks at the crap tables in MS. I mostly fly to Panama City Beach now, spend a night or two on the beach and drive back to south Alabama.

However, I was driving back from south LA area two weeks ago with a friend and by his choice we stayed in the Motel 6 in Marshal TX. There were two of us, we got two separate rooms, checking in about 8PM and leaving about 6 AM on a Sunday morning without reservations. My bill was $45 to $47 including all taxes. No issues at all. The room was clean, the water was hot and the bed was comfy. No noise or oddball neighbors. Coffee in the lobby. Of course it had been a long day of physical activity followed by some driving so there's that.

A good chunk of my family lives in Fairhope so I make that drive a lot. If I split the trip I usually stay at the Fairfield inn in Marshall TX. It's a nice well managed property that goes for the minimum amount of Marriott points.

I just spent a weekend paddling a kayak around swamps and lakes near Breaux Bridge.

Lived in Mobile for a short stint when I was a kid, followed by high school in Huntsville, Alabama. Married a south Alabama belle. We visit her family about once a year and combine that with trips to the beach.
