Sheriff: Mindy McCready had apparently shot self - Yahoo! Music
This entertainer's life has been a train wreck the last few year and, tragically, it's over. Talent and fame aren't enough to overcome fatal personal flaws.

Sad. She had some talent before she derailed a while back.
Horrible ending to a very bad last several yrs...
Still no reason to take the dog too.....
(as that SNL joke "newscasterette" used to say): "Ask Elvis" . . .
(or jimi . . . or janis . . . or jim . . . or . . . )
at least she broke the curse of having a first name starting with j.
(not counting amy whinehouse? whitehouse? winehouse? whatever?) . . . (this is news?)
sorry . . . i couldn't muster up the appropriate. . . sadness?
(in all honesty, i feel more empathy for The Russian Meteor "victims")
(don't forget to thank Leslie Gore for her continuing positive contribution in the area of music . . .)
Wow - what a train wreck. I had no idea she was that messed up. 3 confirmed suicide attempts before this one, a porno tape, AND sex with Roger Clemens. Drugs will screw you up.
Had a good friend struggle with bipolar depression for years until she committed suicide at 37...It is a vicious world out there and just too much for some with mental issues
Very sad ending for her, had a big crush on her when i was in high school.
Mental illness maybe - but she definately had a drug problem.
Mindy McCready becomes latest "Celebrity Rehab" death - CBS News
Mindy McCready's death Sunday, of an apparent suicide, makes her the fifth participant from "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" to die in the past two years.
McCready appeared on the third season of Dr. Drew Pinsky's VH1 series, which followed stars as they were treated for drug and alcohol addiction.
I am just sick that she shot the family dog. I am glad she didn't harm the children. What a sad, sad life.
Clearly she needed help. It's a shame she didn't get it.
She actually had a ton of help over the years but it didn't take. She had multiple problems, including mental health, substance abuse, chaotic family situation, legal problems, etc. Her boyfriend shot and killed himself on that porch a month before and she did the same thing. At least three serious failed suicide attempts are documented and she had court ordered counseling, etc. Such a shame.
Very sad for all involved... thoughts and prayers to the family.
R.I.P. Mindy's dog
From what I read, the kids were in State custody after the boyfriends/father's death. Sadly she couldn't see beyond her own pain & grief that not only does one of her son's not have his father, but now doesn't have his mother or the family pet.
Seems so odd to me that the kids are in foster care - you'd think there could have found a suitable family member, somewhere. Of course, they may have taken custody of them and placed them, physically, with family so they'd have some legal control over their ultimate placement since things are liable to be in flux.
We met Mindy a few years ago at Thunderbird Casino in Edmond. She was very nice to us, even signing an autograph for a friend of mine that lives in Kansas. She had a troubled life, but she had a beautiful voice. My thoughts and prayers go out to her children and her family. I hope her kids can find a good home with lots of love.
This is horrible story for all involved but what she did was selfish no doubt about it.
Its very hard for me to sympathize with her especially being that she had more help then the average joe could receive.
She sadly took the innocent dog first then left her family with/out a mother/daughter.
Selfish.....
I meant to type Norman not Edmond. Sorry...
While I understand your comments, I take exception to the "selfish" comment. To survivors, suicide is always a horrific and selfish action, but it rarely is undertaken with the intent of being selfish. It may by it's very nature be a selfish act, but it is almost always an act of miserable desperation with no hope in sight. I believe that suicide is absolutely the wrong response to such pain and misery, but to the participant, it seems like the only way out of it.
