A 15,000 sq ft station on 10 acres wins a green building award. Soooo many things wrong with that.
He/she doesn't know. That is the usual drivel about most everything in Oklahoma from this person.
20% structures and buildings......80% parking lot..... sounds about right
Hot air causes more harm then this fire station on 10 acres!!!

NORMAN — The carpet backing is made of recycled plastic bottles. Lighting is powered by the sun. Geothermal pumps use the constant temperature of the earth to heat and cool the building.

These are just some of the eco-friendly features of Norman's newest fire station, which opened in September 2013 at 3001 Alameda St. on the city's east side.
On the outside, the building is cream-colored native stone and red brick, but on the inside it's as green as you can get, Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said.
“I'm not one of those people who gets all excited just because you call something green. Nothing against tree-huggers, but I'm not one of them. But if it's green, and it translates to saving money, I'm all for it,” he said.
In the long run, the new station at 3001 Alameda St. is expected to save the city thousands of dollars in energy costs, and its construction is so sturdy and sustainable it will outlast traditionally constructed stations by decades, Bailey said"

That picture is a fire station? I would not be able to tell if that is a fire station so hopefully they will put a sign in front or people will think it is just a fancy house that a family lives there or something
I know, right? I went to drop something at my son's office the other day. If it weren't for the parking slabs, I would have sworn I was on a residential street. I know it's not a new commercial design format, but to date I hadn't had that much of an in your face moment with it.
