I've always wanted to turn the entire mall into a giant urban paintball course!

That really might be what can turn that area around, and it would be a great place for it being that its at the crossroads of I-35 and I-240. It would also be a good location for an amusement park, if OKC ever were to get a real one (Frontier City doesn't count).

Drove by there this morning on the way to work, and saw a sign infront of the Old Best Buy (which was being painted) that said that it will soon be the home to Heritage College... which i believe is just moving from the building just to the north of there

An ideal location for an amusement park would be that mill downtown incorporate rides with the existing buildings and such that would be awesome.

Too bad the only person around these parts with the money to pull it off is a bible thumper would be nice if David green would buy that property level it clean up contaminants and such and put it up for developement or maybe build a mega church on the land lol.

I may be blind but could someone link me to the coop mill thread

Why doesn't Valley Brook petition to acquire the parcel of land upon which sits the carcass of the former Crossroads Mall after OKC proper having reconsidered previously non-effective land-grab treaties and contracts . . . simply decide to re-cede it to them? Less police . . . More fun and busting. No? I'm sure that there is at least one "Indian" buried in that vicinity and what better place for a casino?

I was told by a commercial realtor group this week that there is a group that is actively negotiating to turn Crossroads into a Hispanic Mall like one that is in the Dallas area. The same commercial realtors also told me that they at one point were working another group who wanted to turn into a waterpark like Great Wolf in Dallas but that fell through.

While this seems like one of the more plausible ways to go with it, do we have any idea how well located is it for the Hispanic population of the city?

They guys that I met with all thought that it was not a good idea. For one, the demographics of the area are not hispanis. Actually it is more business/industrial.

I went to Bath and Body Works there last week and the place isn't nearly as empty as it's made out to be. The finally consolidated the businesses down to the central core from all the outlying spaces. So yes, it's empty when you first walk in from any door. But there are as many stores in the middle of the thing has hertiage park had on a normal day. Are they all "good" stores, no not really. But there are a few things there that probably won't move out until the place closes...like Bath and Body Works, Victoria's Secret, Zales, etc.

One thing you will notice there now, is that it's 80% families. Almost anyone there is there with their kids and spends at least some time at the play area.

So to all of you complainin that it's crime ridden, i'm not sure you're looking correctly. Would I go there at night? No. Too much open dark space for that. But that can be true of oh so many places. Is it a real mall? No, but it also doesn't appear that it's in a state of being ready to close any time soon either.

I drove around the mall Saturday morning killing a few minutes on my way to AMC to watch The Hobbit. I was surprised at how many cars were in the parking lot. I expected to see maybe 30-40 cars but I would estimate that there were close to 750-800+ vehicles parked around the mall before 10:00 AM.

The stories of Crossroads being nothing more than a daily deathtrap have been around this board (and this thread) for years. And its never been as bad as the legends. Your characterization is very fair - is it 100% safe, no, of course not, particularly at night, but it isn't this black hole from which light and life is doomed never to escape. Mind you, I'm not one of these folks who foresees any magical Crossroads renaissance, but this notion its seconds away from the wrecking ball isn't accurate, either. Reality is somewhere in the middle.

Yes, Journey's is still open as well as Champ's, Foot Action, and Liberty Shoe Warehouse where you can get 3 pairs of shoes for $25!! Great for growing kiddos.

So the mall still has 8 stores that have familiar names... that must mean it is thriving!!!!!

I would love to believe that Crossroads could see a renaissance like Northpark has with boutique stores, but their southside location just won't do it. If a mall were to survive in the southside, it would have to be in Moore or between Moore and Norman. The demographics in the area immediately surrounding the mall do not support a quality shopping center and its in fact getting worse. For that reason, Crossroads' fate is pretty much sealed. Maybe OKC can annex Valley Brook and completely bulldoze it and that would be a start.

Did they find out what caused the fire to the old Best Buy?

I remember when I was a kid going to Crossroads and spending my allowance on the Lemans arcade, I would always play Marvel vs Capcom 2, or that dance game that was there, I remember going into KB toys there and being afraid of that animal on a ball thing, then I would always get something to drink at Orange Julius, I would also make a trip downstairs to gamestop. I remember the mall had 2 hallmarks if I'm correct? I also remember where Leman's used to be that there used to be people standing by the area surveying people and you could get money.

It's sad what the mall has become so many memories, I hope they do something with the mall if it closes soon like turn it into an office complex or just tear it down completely and build a new shopping center or lifestyle center over it.

Also I went there a month ago and there was very few stores left
    Image
    Champ's
    Journey's
    Eastern Treasures (shockingly)
    Liberty Shoes
    Bath and Body
    Foot Action USA
    Victoria's Secret
    Fredrick's
    Hat World
    La Pattrica
    Eargazum
Rue 21 - only stores I could think of that are still there

I wouldn't be surprised if Eastern Treasures is a cover business for something shady. It has all of the tell-signs of it. Walk in there and try to look at some of the merchandise by touching it and the owner won't be too friendly. If it was a legitimate business, they probably would have moved out of Crossroads by now. You would think they would have at least a basic website as well, especially as a business that has been there for decades, but they have nothing.

The rest of those stores, I've heard, are just waiting on their lease to end and they are out.

Eastern Treasures is STILL there? How do they possibly make enough to stay open? Maybe it really is a front for something else.

It's mostly stuff that few people would even want so I don't know how they would have ever made enough money to pay mall rent. There also used to be borderline-illegal merchandise in there like switch blades and brass knuckles. I haven't been in there in 12 years so maybe I should take a trip to Crossroads to see what they are selling these days.
