Thread: Urban Development Driving Tour

  1. Default Urban Development Driving Tour

I have a visitor coming from out of state this week...he has not been here in about 12 years and would be very interested in seeing all of the new projects on a driving tour of the general downtown area...including residential, commercial, neighborhoods being revitalized...both completed and in-progress. Last time he was here, Bricktown was the extent of our redevelopment!

Let's say the starting point is heading south on I-235 from the I-44 interchange. So, give me turn by turn directions so I can show off all of our great progress...and not miss anything cool to see!

Take 235 south to 23rd. Follow 23rd west to Classen, take Classen south to 13th, hang a left (east) and go through midtown, then take any of the east/west arterials to Broadway and shoot south down AA, stay on Broadway to Sheridan, hang a right (west) drive by MBG/Devon and go through Film Row. Take Lee north to Robert S Kerr, and follow RSK back east into downtown and stay on it when it turns into 2nd street and go through Deep Deuce, take the Walnut Bridge south into North bricktown, hang a left on Reno and circle the ballpark and head north on Russel M Perry to 4th street, go right to Lincoln and take Lincoln up through the Health Sciences Center and the Capitol complex.

Also don't forget about the River developments. You can take the S Lincoln bridge over I-40.

I'd take him up by Chesapeake / Classen Curve as well.

I think you should go south down Walker (avoid Classen, bc it's a huge eyesore) and then go east on 10th at the Circle, then toward downtown on Broadway. Then take 3rd under the BNSF tracks and wind through Deep Deuce. Take 2nd across to The Hill and then take that back to Sheridan, which you can take west through downtown. You can take Walker back north and maybe switch to Robinson north of 10th just to show a different street.

That should be the most impressive tour anyone could plan without knowing specifically what someone likes to see.

I'd say make a stop at the MBG......get out and take a stroll.......

I'd definitely get out and stroll around Bricktown too, and take the elevator in the Power Alley Garage up to the top and gaze at the view. I took some out of town visitors up there recently and they were stunned. Because of how flat we are, we don't have viewsheds that give people a strong sense of place.

One of the more ironic thread titles I've seen in awhile...

I would take him downtown, park the car, and ride a bike to all the downtown developments. Compared to riding a bike you would be surprised how much you miss in a car.

Yeah, I gave my dad a spokies tour before I left and he loved it. Great places you can stop at near kiosks too, like McNellie's...
