ESPN reports that he's out of the Olympics. Torn maniscus. He'll be back for October NBA preseason workouts.

I sure he's very disappointed. Athletes never know how many opportunities they will have to participate in the Olympics.

KD led the US team in scoring with 24 in the first exhibition. Very nice.

An update on those with Oklahoma ties at the Olympics. It's a surprisingly long list.

Seems to be if you are a male gymnast and want to go the Olympics, go to OU.

They also missed a few, there are four more rowers training here going.

There seem to be continuing issues with security personnel in England during the games. I hope they pull everything off but it could be somewhat of a debacle.

While this isn't related to the London Olympics, it's a great human interest article about our own Oklahoma Olympic darling, Shannon Miller.

Not a gold medal yet, but for those who were expressing concerns about this Team USA, a 22 point win against the team that is supposed to be our top competition in their home country makes a pretty good impression.

The Beijing opening cermony was certainly much more impressive in it's scale and production values but the Brits sure like they had much more fun.

I got to know Shannon through my good friend who was her agent.

The only time I saw her perform in person was at an exhibition in Los Angeles. The event actually turned out to be a bust, with only a few hundred people showing up. But in this completely meaningless performance witnessed by a very small crowd, I have never, ever seen anyone so intense in my life.

It's like she went into a trance about a half an hour before she did her thing and was not even close to the same person. Afterwards, she was very hard on herself about some minor bobbles I hadn't even noticed.

I'll never forget that. It made me realize something for the first time: Commitment, drive and desire are by far the most important elements in achieving great success in any field.

I wonder if the airline charged them for the pillows and blankets.

That comes with First Class along with the little blue curtain that tells the other passengers you have more money than them.

I really enjoyed the Opening Ceremony (finally got time to finish it). The Brits did a very good job and I really liked the concept behind the cauldron. It would have been nice if it was actually elevated to be viewed outside as normal though.

My only really negative remark was in the coverage. Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira needed to shut the hell up. They ruined so much of the touching moments of the opening ceremonies with their "Macy's Day Parade" commentary that it was just flat out upsetting at times.

NM found a working video of opening ceremonies http://www.putlocker.com/file/459029878D4A3B39#

It's early but I would have to say it's a disappointment so far for a couple of high profile areas where we were expected to excel, men's swimming and gymnastics.

Yeah NBC really sucks they've made it very to difficult to watch any thing live. Looks like I'll have to go hunt down streams now.

A gold for the US in women's rowing. Does anyone know if any of these women have a connection at the OKC rowing center?

No, they have visited a couple times but they train at Princeton and most were from various collage teams around the country.

Most of the national rowers here are men, since title IX has grown women's college rowing a lot around the country over the last few decades to help even the numbers with football there was a lot of depth there already, OCU men's team was either one of a handful or the only new men's varsity rowing teams in the last thirty years.

Team USA beat Nigeria earlier with a 156-73 victory. They set an Olympic record for most points ever scored and a USA record with 27 made 3 pointers, lol.
