He didn't out coach Pop the Thunder players outlasted the Spurs players and that's why they won. Brooks just says "play harder guys" and stuff like that. Not like it really matters because now it looks Brooks and the Thunder made an agreement on his new contract. So we all know he's gonna do it again any way.
LOL, it's nice that we have an insider here that knows exactly what Brooks tells his players. I can just picture all of the practices with Brooks telling them "play harder guys".
Anyone who thinks they know what goes into coaching by watching sound bites during the game timeouts don't have a clue about what's going on.
While I agree that Brooks does more coaching than we see on TV I have seen post game interviews where he has said that he often lets KD, Wesbrook, Harden and others work out how to adjust on their own. I've also heard that he was letting Fisher and Perkins give "I've been here, this is what we need to do" talks at halftime instead of Brooks doing it himself. Sounds like solid coaching to me.
You are wrong. All of Pops adjustments (e.g., shortening his bench, starting Manu...) did not work. Brooks played small ball and it frustrated the Spurs on numerous ocassions. It's a popular narrative that Brooks just yells "play harder," but it's just empty rhetoric. Have you notived that the NBA/tc stations only uses those types of soundbites and never uses specific game strategies... for all coaches. All coaches sound like they're saying nothing in those bites. Brooks showed some nice progress this year in showing increased flexibility and imaginivity with his units this year. He made some bad decisions in the finals (e.g., Perk played too many minutes), but frankly, you don't actually know what you're talking about.
First, you should learn how to spell Harden's name if you want to be taken seriously. Second, you seem to want a coach that is overly controlling and meddles into every detail. One of Brooks' strengths is knowing when to let players play. That's actually a really important part of coaching. Some coaches meddle so much that players lose confidence, and are always looking over their shoulder. And, who cares if those vets talk at halftime? Lol.
First, I've probably typed Harden's name a hundred times. So sorry I used an i instead of an e once. Second, did you read the post. I gave Brooks props for not being a controlling coach and letting the players be a part of the decision and adjustment making. What do you think I meant by "Sounds like solid coaching to me.".
My bad. Without a period between your first two sentences I must have misunderstood your meaning... We're in agreement then.
Glad they resigned him. I am looking forward to a great next season with some new faces PJ3 and Thabeet.
