Thread: Brooks contract extension in question?

NBA Brooks contract extension in question?

I read a few articles concerning the state of contract extension negotiations between Brooks and the Thunder.

There are a lot of mixed feelings and opinions over whether or not Brooks should be signed to a new contract. The reason is because everyone is citing his horrible line-ups in the finals especially in game 5.

I have mixed feelings about this. The question for me is what kind of record would a Brooks team have with no stars or star power. What I am saying is, could he produce the kind of winning record that George Carl has in Denver with no stars.

I think he is a good coach and I would be fine with it if they did resign him. If he does get resigned, Brooks has to address the offensive inefficiency so evident in the Finals. what I mean is the 3 people standing around the court just watching to see what kind of play Durant or Westbrook is going to make while the defense is draped all over them.

    Anyways, what do you think?

That u don't have a clue what your talking about. Brooks is an excellent coach and the Thunder management would be foolish not to extend his contract.

I see no reason to not look at what else is out there. Fact is is that it's going to cost a good amount of money to resign him, the same amount of money that could sign other proven, championship coaches. As if Phil Jackson is interested, I don't know how you don't look into that.

I still predict that he will be back as head coach but there is no reason to not explore our options.

Phil Jackson's signing bonus would be more then Scotts annual salary

Brooks is not a excellent coach, he is a stubborn coach that does not know how to make adjustments, he should be fired but I am not a Thunder fan though but I hope he stays, I do not want the Orlando Magic to hire that stubborn crappy coach

Just a great likeable guy whose teams have improved every year...Hard to tell what's due to coaching and what's just the players...With that said you gotta sign a coach that has led his team to the Western finals and the finals the past two seasons

Phil Jackson would've sucked as a coach without Jordan/Pippen and Kobe. He was hired after the Bulls and Lakers stars were established. Most coaches are only as good as the players that are on the roster.

Brooks is getting resigned. The only hangup is the the length of the contract. The articles you are reading are simply trying to start controversy, probably because all the LeBron "redemption" BS stories aren't getting the number of reads/clicks they were hoping for.

Its not uncommon for people to negotiate in anything to reject the first offer...little more than a negotiating tactic.

I can't remember the last time a coach, in a matter of 3 1/2 years, turn a team from not even making the playoffs to competing in the Finals.

Whoa, flashback to all the fire Bob Stoops/Brent Venebles/insert OU coach name here. This is stupid. He is an excellent coach, and we are lucky to have him.

What has brooks done since he's been coach of the thunder? Let's see
1st yearne of if not the worst records in the nba
2nd year: took us to the first round of the playoffs
    3rd year: western conference finals
    This year: nba finals
Scotty is a great coach. That would be a pretty bad loss

Scott Brooks brought the team this far and he deserves to take this team to the summit.

Players made mistakes along the way and we are just going to have to accept the fact that they were playing a veteran-laced Miami Heat team. Could we have won this series? Yes indeed. Give it up to Miami; they played their hearts out and created breaks and won this series with their extra effort.

The Thunder had a tough road eliminating Dallas, Los Angeles & San Antonio--all former recent NBA champions. Miami was a team in which we had match-up problems and couldn't adjust.

Let's get Scott Brooks resigned and look forward to the next NBA full season 2012-13.

    Proof?

I agree though with the sentiment that Brooks is part of the team and civic culture and needs to stay. Changing personnel after this kind of a season would just be wrongheaded.

The players also endorse him, that says a lot right there.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) General manager Sam Presti dismissed reports that 11-time NBA champion Phil Jackson or former New York Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy could be the next coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder, saying an extension with Scott Brooks is a top priority.

''To me, it's rubbish,'' Presti said Sunday when asked about an ESPN report that Jackson and Van Gundy were being considered as options if Brooks couldn't be re-signed.

This sums it up pretty well. I find it baffling that people are serious about changing head coaches for a team that has exceeded our wildest expectations in such a short time. Scott Brooks is obviously doing something right with the outstanding talent he to work with. The entire discussion typifies the idiots who call for the OU football coach's head when they "only" won 8 or 9 games.

Yeah, they love playing for Scottie. They have said before it's not as fun playing for an ego. The thing is, for the time being, this is perfect. None of these guys are superstars, they're all living in Oklahoma and playing for Okies, and everybody has a place on a team that is collectively among the best. Move Brooks or any of the players elsewhere, and I'd get an ego if I were them, he's earned it. But in OKC that's not part of the equation. Being part of this phenomenon, because all of these guys were unknowns who got their break in OKC and made it happen together, is bringing the best out of every single element.

Does anyone know if a coach's salary comes into play in any way concerning a team's salary cap? I'm guessing that it doesn't but don't know for sure.

No, the salary cap only includes player contracts.

Brooks has been a great coach for our young team. He never gets too high or two low, and his stubbornness can actually provide confidence to young players. Just like our players, he has a lot of room to grow (especially n regard to Xs and Os), but don't underestimate how he has embraced, and enhanced, a culture that is rare in the league. While I often criticize his game decisions, I will be happy to have him back... And he deserves it.

Presti will get it done, but he has to play chess to keep Brooks' price down. That's his responsibility to the owners.

The Thunder is reportedly offering $16 million over 4 years and a "source" (read his agent) says they are still far apart. Some of you are giving Brooks too much credit. I thinks there are a lot of coaches that could've done the same with 2 NBA all-stars, the 6th man of the year and the player who came in 2nd for defensive player of the year. This team has the best talent in the NBA. Brooks should sign the offer, thank the owners for doubling his salary and thank Carlissimo for hiring him in the first place.

They're close to a deal on a new contract according to Marc Stein. Reportedly, he did turn down the $16 million dollar offer.

Hopefully he turns this offer down and takes his talents some where else. Brooks is not a great coach he's decent but not great he played horrible lineups through out the playoffs. The Thunder got to finals in spite of Brooks not because of him. Brooks has serious issues with his in game decisions and he could possibly have cost the Thunder a championship. If Brooks wants a longer contract or more money he can go find it some where else. Now he is a horrible in game coach but I don't know what kind of coach he is in practice.

Regardless, it sounds like he's been offered about 4 million for four years and may take it.

They were saying this after the San Antonio series huh ? All I heard was how he out coached Pop, who is considered one of the top coaches in the league.

Also decided to clear out everybody and let Harden go one on one in the 4th quarter to close out the Mavs...But I'm sure that was Mo Cheeks call not Brooks lol
