Thread: Devon Energy Center

  1. Default Re: Devon Energy Center (Devon Tower)

I'm assuming that the catchment sill surrounding the water features flows into a reservoir - the water features are too extensive to not come with something like that.

Yes, those are the same type of overflow fountains that are inside the rotunda.

I just don't think they have them operating quite yet.

  3. Default Re: Devon Energy Center (Devon Tower)

They were fully operating last night.

I heard from the owner of the company who cleans the windows that each window cost on average $17,000. I don't know if that's true, but with fiber optics running through 1/3 of them, I wouldn't doubt it.

Who cares if it is stuck. Only good to watch the changing skies. Bldg isn't going to change.

    My thoughts.

To add to those sentiments and NOT to belittle Devon, and I do seriously love seeing all the pics, but I will admit I don't understand why this is always the most recent thread.

For me, if it's major developments, it's on to the next one..

I could be mistaken but I don't think any of the fiber optics are embedded in the windows. That has always appeared to be in the thin tubes surrounding the windows.

On this, I agree w/ Spartan - isn't it about time to close this thread and let it go in peace w/ dignity ?

Some of us look forward to seeing the LED lighting on here! There is also a lot of displaced okies watching this.

They're not suggesting the thread be deleted... Just lose the sticky.

Was driving across town tonight and they were testing the LED lighting again. this time all in blue with it lit up higher than I have ever seen before.. i wonder if they are working to see how much they can get lit before the NBA finals.. was a nice Blue Glow about 75% of the building..

This is still the biggest project in the history of the state with much work left to be done.

We are not closing the thread (we never do this) or removing the sticky any time soon.

no need to be snitty about it.

    Marland Oil's company town in Ponca City was, pretty sure;
in constant dollars, Williams Center was also bigger.
In square footage, City of Faith Medical and Research Center was 20% larger.
In both, Cities Service headquarters when they moved from Manhattan was a nearly equivalent project - big enough that it too had to be cut down midway.
But Devon probably comes in #4 of top five, at least when project is defined as something both intended and carried out at one go.

    Five will get you ten--
they will be able to light up at least the vertical LED's blue in the indentations, and maybe racing or flashing or something big-time, if the Thunder wins the NBA.
Maybe not a lot of other features, but the vertical blues, I think so.
That is, if they win it all, and it happens in OKC.

I read no "snittiness" in his statement.

I have no idea about the Ponca City project but I seriously doubt it was larger than 1.8 million square feet and cost more than $750 million in today's dollars. Please provide a link to valid information if you have one.

Williams Center was a series of projects spanning over 10 years, all built separately and none approaching the scope of Devon Tower. If you want to use that criteria, the Health Sciences Center in OKC or Tinker AFB are way bigger in both size and cost; the American Airlines facilities in Tulsa probably are too. And, the Chesapeake campus will soon have more square footage and will have cost more than Devon, but again, that includes dozens of separate projects. OU has spent more than a billion on capital improvements over the last 10 years.

City of Faith was built for $250 million in 1981, that equates to $653 million today.

Cities Services only built half their building; many other projects are bigger than what was actually completed.

Official completion is in October. Im sure people can wait five months for the Devon sticky to be removed.

I'd take the Devon project over any of these.....850 ft plus the high tech features....... no comparison.

Yes! The blue was beautiful. I took pics that I'll put up here in a few..

Btw, Pete - didn't Devon come in closer to $400 mil rather than the projected $750 mil? (As one of the major reasons for the P180 debacle, lower than expected TIF revenue)
